Your favorite Days Of Wild rendition?

Lawd do I love that jam. I loved it when the live and studio promo DAT versions came out in mid-1994, then for years the Bataclan and Stars & Bars were my favorites (not sure which of the two specifically, I'd have to check them out again) Then the Love4OneAnother cut didn't beat those for me but ended up being a favorite as well, then finally, after hearing multiple other versions on various boots, the Crystal Ball version came out and was and still is the ultimate jam for me music headbang yes

I remember saying repeteadly "if I ever see the song live, I can die in peace" and I finally did in Paris 98, and 26 years later I can still die in peace, and the 2002 version was groovy, too, but I could never really recover from the CB version.

Which live version that I may or may not have missed is your absolute jam?

For me, the CB doesn't do it justice as it feels too tamed, edited or trimmed, and tampered with in studio with overdubs. For some reason, the most enjoyable versions to me are on bootlegs.

Basically one can't go wrong with any live version from 1994-95. As with any groove, it could go longer or end more abruptly, but that jam was fire back then.

And odd favorite one is the Emporium aftershow in London, on March 1995. Eric Leeds joins and the band performs an "organic" version without samples and loops. It's not the ultimate performance, in the sense that's different from the more regular versions played at the time, but highly enjoyable.

Another different one, sadly just released as an snippet on an NPG Ahdio show, is a guitar heavy version from 1999, a rare one as the song was not regularly performed anymore back then. I personally love this bit, but then again it might not be the most representative version out there.

The Beautiful Experience version will always be the definitive for me. Purely for the nostalgia after watching it back then for the first time and being totally blown away.

.

Another one I like cos it's a bit different is from Glam Slam 29-05-94. The way he starts it off acapella and there's no backing tracks or samples so Sonny/Morris are having to do them live.

Many versions are fantastic, but I have a soft spot for the first version I heard, the one from Feb. 13 1994, which I heard on the "Welcome 2 The Beautiful Experience" KTS release.

The Oct. 24, 1995 version ("The Park, Volume Three"), with the GoldAxxe part, is insane. 13+ minutes.

Live version from Paisley Park, 5 August 1995 (later edited down for use in the Love 4 One Another movie). Deep grove and bass on this version.

I like this question, it made me go find my CD which was called Glam Slam West that I got as a gift in mid '95.

Days of Wild

My favorie version is still that one from Glam Slam June 26, 1994.

13:15 it has Hair at about the 7 min mark and at around 10 min mark it has the bass line from

777-9311

Just listened to it again and it is still great. I never heard this live.

-As a side note and added bonus for me. On this CD it had the June '94 VH-1 Honors performance of Endorphinemachine that I was just crazy about but only heard it on that TV perfromance of course I taped it but still no album, cassette, or CD. That darn song didn't come out until Oct '95 on Gold.

Not sure who remembers the CD-Rom that Prince came out with in June of '94. Anyhow, it had a video on there of Endorphinmachine but you had to play a game which was hard to navigate just to get it to play the video. Old times.

Anyhow, good memory!

This was not, "Days O Wild", this was something else!

Like the later "Adam & Eve" version of "TGRES".

Both of them feel more genuinely "Princely" than the songs they stem from.

Myrna Braza's cover version on the Norwegian Prince tribute set Shockadelica. That 5-CD set actually contains several covers that surpass Prince's originals.

CoolMF

Can't remember where I heard it back in the mid-90s but I recall once hearing a slowed down blues version of the song that was really cool...

I like the shortened guitar solo version from October 23rd, 1999 live from Paisley Park released on an Ahdio show. It might help that I was 2 feel away as he was playing that guitar solo. I was also near the front of the 1995 show that the CB version is from and although I can't hear myself I know I was changting "Free the Slave", "play that MFin Bass". Good times.
