42 and fan since 1991 smile I wish the easte could speed up the releases a bit. At least 2 SDEs a year is not too much to ask for.

Same here! 42 since '91.

My mom convinced me to buy D&P and I couldn't stop. It was weird hearing some of those raunchier songs being so young, but no one monitored me.

Watching Purple Rain again actually got me feeling a little morose, it's so distinctly of it's time, like a time capsule and set me thinking of how long ago Prince's Purple Glory Days were. Which always sets me wondering about his fanbase getting older. You'd think the Estate would be cognisant of that and keen on getting stuff out before we all shuffle off into senile deaf old age. So anyway, thought I'd start a thread and canvas fellow forum members. I'm 58, and getting nervy about being around for all the SDEs we dream of; how about you?

I've always felt worried that the Estate wasn't getting things out in a tiemly manner. Ex: PAAM shows - come on!

As for watching PR at this stage, i think that has mostly to do with the fact that the past causes depression. I don't watch or listen to things that get me in that state. Once in a while for the musicality and dancing i will, but remember Prince stayed in the day. That's what he would want us to do now.

Truly, i look to Andy Allo as the greatest example of that in Prince's associates. She has grieved until she was okay (Mayte too). It took about 7 years. Makes sense, cuz 7 years is about the mark of a NEW change. But Andy has dealt with things so well. She's really made herself keep growing and livjng life during that grieving. Cuz we can feel more than one feeling at the same time.

Celebrate something NEW today, cuz that's exactly what Prince would want for us.

I'm 24 and became a fan when I was 13, so I've been a fan almost half my life. Prince is my biggest inspiration musically and has gone on to inspire me as a music making artist. He's inspired my name (I'm a trans person and named myself Vicky after The Sacrifice Of Victor and how empowering the song felt to me at 15 years old), he's the reason I'm pescatarian, he's the reason I wear heels, flares and only one hooped earring in my right ear ~ because Lovesexy is the one. I'm an atheist but turn to his religious music when I feel at my lowest, with Lovesexy and The Rainbow Children being in my top three albums. My #1 is LotusFlow3r/MPLSoUND because it feels like home to me. And being a Prince fan has given me some amazing opportunites, like meeting Afshin Shahidi and Ida Nielsen. I was a writer for The Violet Reality a few years ago, and have recorded podcast episodes with Chris Johnson of Purple Knights and Jay Scott of NightChild Reviews. I also did a massive blog post about my favourite Prince era, 3RDEYEGIRL, a few years back which I am super proud of. Prince continues to inspire, captivate and leave me in awe with every new thing I learn about him, and each new song I hear. Him and his music have saved me countless times. And every now and again I feel as though everything I'm doing or trying to achieve as an artist is to make him proud and keep his legacy going. I am trying my best, because Love 4 One Another is the only way prince

54 F Listened to sister playing his music since For You. Became a fan with 1999. Became a superman with Purple Rain. I agree with you about the music. It's too much bullshitting going on not to be releasing music.

Same except M.

& I discovered him on my own. I assume your sis was a few years older. Mine was only 2 years older, & never got into Prince.

I do remember being intrigued by him tho. That song (I wanna be the only one u cook for?). Him on SNL (wait, those aren't pants?). Controversy video (OK he's insane).

Early 40s. Bought the Hits 1, then 2, then a kind fan on the old alt fan Prince newsgroup made me a series of tapes with outtakes and selects from different albums. As teen I couldn’t wait to get those tapes and dive in. If that guy is in here reading, thank you!

54 here, I just want music. I don't care for, and have never cared for, the photos or videos. Music, music, music please. I'm probably in a minority but I don't care for liner notes, session info, or anything like that. I either enjoy the song or I don't. I don't really mind 'Frankenstein' releases, or re-mixes where a finished version isn't available, but I would appreciate also hearing whatever it was, as Prince left it.

But all that said, I'll buy any officially released music. What I won't do though is spend money if the only way to get something is with an over priced vinyl set, that I can't even play. I'm looking at you Welcome 2 America Blu-Ray lol

I just want to hear more music before I eventually die and while I've got the money to just buy whatever they release.

To be fair it's probably true that the majority of fans are (old timers). It'd be fascinating to see what the demographics are regards the fanbase, and if Prince isn't being noticed/ appreciated by the youngsters today (obsessed by Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa etc,as they may be).

The older we get, the crankier we get. Imagine the grief the Estate will be getting in a few more years. Eventually they'll have to put the white flag up and start releasing more vault material.

This would have been what I posted exactly. And yeah, I'm 54 as well.

Oh wait... I did get the W2A set when it took a brief price dip. I had to have that blu-ray.

I'm 50 this year too. I remember recording SOTT singles off the radio on tape, so must have been a bit of a fan in '87... But it was the Lovesexy show on TV that made me a super fan, and to start buying albums myself. So, 13 years old!

I heard it on the radio back then and loved it so asked the single for my birthday in september 81, I got the album instead and some time later I saw the video on TV and became a fan. to this day it's still my favorite Prince album.

Heard the track 1999 late september 1982 on a transistor-radio of a friend of mine on my way to school in a bus.

Was in love instatly.

I was 16 when I discovered Prince.

And got the album 1999 (single LP version) on vinyl (for my birthday 2 months later).

My birthday is actuially september. That was the longest wait of my entire life!

It had to arrive through import, to a record shop in Holland (Maastricht).

Wasn't even able to get it in my own country, through import (back then).

52, I'll be 53 in November.

I've been a fan since the 1999 album, but not right away (was a radio fan first, got the album for Christmas 1983).

I was 12 in the summer of '84 when Purple Rain came out.
