What the hell was Prince having fun on drums and cymbals on this track.

Was never able to hear this amazing work he delivered on drums in this track (alone).

All these unbelievable (live drums?) fill-ins over a Linn-drum loop...

Totally amazing!

Also the guitar overdubs during the long the guitar solo, fucking awesome!

This song has SO MUCH to tell, so much to show and still discover.

Can we say it's one of Prince best masterpieces ever put to tape?

Tbh I really dislike this mix! Don't mean to spoil the fun, I appreciate what you're saying about hearing the fills and overdubs more clearly etc, it's interesting. But it is such a broken mix, volume levels jumping all over the place, important movement in the song neutered, none of the instruments sit nicely together. I guess I'm just too attached to the original mixes but Computer Blue in particular really bugs me. Sorry to be a grinch. It really bugs too that Apple Music have kinda made the Atmos mix the default on the main Prince artist page now under "essential albums". They are erasing Prince's original work, one bullshit remaster and remix at a time.

This was the first song I stopped enjoying from the original recording, but this Atmos mix gave it new life to me.

You can disable Atmos and hear the stereo mix.

No, no, you're not a grinch. It's an opinion, i appreciate it.

But what you're explaining here seems like you would have preferred a different "stereo" mix, like Pink Floyd did with older work.

The thing with Dolby Atmos mix, in my opinion, is the idea of taking sounds apart in such a way that you can hear all those layers that are barely audible, or hard to distinguish, even completely new discoveries from the original version.

Obviously, I myself like the original version (more too). But this kind of mix certainly adds a richness in my mind for the next time I listen to the original, looking for these unheard fills and overdubs, over the "neutered" parts.

I had the same feeling with the D&P Dolby Atmos mix. That one really made me like the album more. An album I never cared much for.Purple Rain is still my holy grail album. Moreover, this uncomplicated approach gives me more satisfaction in discovering something we can blindly hear in our heads without really hearing it.
