He did NOT want this.
He turned down this "you have to pay for it yourself" $75,000+ mess.

Whose idea?
Next a hologram?
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

What's the bet McMillan and Spicer will both be there front and center to accept it on his behalf?

You know damn well they wouldn't miss an opportunity to show off and take all the credit for getting Prince a star. They are the "owners" of Prince's legacy now after all, remember?

ill

Yep cost $75,000, as stated in this article:

https://people.com/hollyw...ow-8431908

In the article, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez recalls, “One Walk of Famer said, ‘Hey, Prince, you should be nominated.’ And Prince said, ‘No, I'm not ready.’ And then sadly, he passed away. So I'm hoping someday his family will nominate him.”

https://www.thewrap.com/w...k-of-fame/

Also mentioned in this 2016 article (when the cost was $30,000 (inflation, eh!)

Well, you sure can't be mad at the people who turn down that award, given the personal cost assessed!

>

So now the Prince Estate will pay. It'll be a good investment to work toward their advertising. I'm pretty sure that Prince would reject the offer again if he were still alive and working to hang on to his Paisley Park studio/soundstage and all those bands that he had on retainer!

Yes, one time he said that he didn't like people trampling all over his name and it doesn't mean anything.
For the rright amount anyone can have a meaningless thing like that for bums to piss all over

As meaningless as it is, I am glad he is getting one. Prince had his reasons, but I think his name deserves to be there.

This made me cry & to have Jimmy Jam announce it.

Sheila E. should host the special event

The estate's making no one happy with this decision, not even the young crowd thanks to misinfo that they havent cleaned up.

maybe they should stop focusing on "celebrations" and "awards" and fix Prince's image with people under 30. Prince acted too "gay" for the more conservative people, but is considered "homophobic" and problematic by the more liberal people. Nobody my age listens to him at all.

If McMillan and Spicer don't fix their sh*t soon, Prince's fanbase will die and his music will die with it.

Let's be honest...at least secretly, a lot of us think this long overdue. Agreeing with Prince's sentiment in his life, after his passing, it seems appropriate (to me) that he gets his star. I will absolutely visit it once it is there, I'm sure some of you will too.

As to whom should accept...I'm sure it will be Tyka but maybe Wendy and Lisa...or perhaps Shiela. What about Lenny? I mean, it's empty without him there.

I for one am happy this is going to be a thing...it is never going to be disrespectful to honor him in my opinion.

The average person walking down that Walk Of Fame doesn't care about Prince's personal beliefs about such things - they will be excited to see the star and get a photo with it.

I wonder if the star will have the prince anywhere on it?

Exactly my thoughts.

I miss the "old days" when someone like Tyka & the sibs would be there to collect it

As it was announced by Jimmy Jam, it would be great if he and Terry Lewis did it.

Right, but like, isn't that the extent of it?

They'll probably have a family member run off to the nearest IHOP or something to get a short stack to pose with in the photo for perpetual meme stunt queen purposes, but otherwise they'll keep it moving. Is anybody going to be purchasing CDs/records and/or associated tchatchki's because he's on the Walk O Fame?

Like, you're probably right to an extent, there is a % of the audience that believes this is overdue like an MJ collab.

But then there's the rest of us who absolutely recoil at the notion of either. Like dude didn't need that kind of mainstream validation, and neither should you all. He transcends all that shit. Aaaalll that shit, songwriter hall of fame, walk of fame, stupid pop star collabs. I get the counterarguments, but I will always argue it's significant cooler that he's excluded from these accolades, just like it was cooler in the early 00s when Rolling Stone didn't even put him on their list of great guitarists opposed to now when they try and retcon that oversight.

Dude doesn't need these incipid mainstream validations, he's cooler than that. That's just my perspective, if he felt the same, either way.

You're correct - after the obligatory photo op (with or without pancakes), people will move on without buying anything.

It won't further his legacy, but more like honor it.

I've said before, but will it be purple instead of the traditional pink terrazzo? Will the prince replace his name? I doubt they will stray too far from their "template", but like the gold star on First Avenue (which was done by a fan), they might do something different . . .
