You can also add his "assless" pants performance of Gettoff as another embarrising perfromance. The song rocked though. Maybe the ladies will disagree with me.

I paid a grip to see that performance live! I was 8th row til he came on stage then i rushed up front...but the only foul up was when his sleeve caught onto the mic at first otherwise i thought it was a splendid show... hmmm if you mean the pants then all I can say is hey that's just Prince...(even though I was surprised seeing it right then and there ...

I remember the "Living Color" show spoofing that performance in a skit once. It get mentioned again when Prince was on the Muppet show, so I guess he was cool with all the attention it got.

It was mentioned on the Muppet Show?!?! Did I miss something? When was this?

One of the Muppets turned around and was wearing assless leather pants!lol

It was on the show where Prince(Symbol era) was the special guest. He did songs like "Star Fish & Cofee" & a song called "She talks to Angels", I think. My favorite part was when Prince was in a "Hee Haw" type skit.At the beginning of the show one of the Muppets turned around and was wearing assless leather pants!lol

the christ performance for those that have not seen it:

he was recieveing a lifetime achievment award if i recall correctly, and the crowd was crazy excited about him being there, and i in the watching on my tv at home audience was too. i get really whipped up when they introduced him and the NPg, and they started playing the intro to the cross... as this is one of my all time favorite P songs, i go apeshit.

suddenly he starts talking over the music saying things like "somebody lied about how somebody died" and explaining the concept of the stauros, which the JWs apparently believe Jesus was actually nailed to instead of a cross...

cue my confused and deflated reaction.

then he starts singing the song, but changes a lot of the lyrics around, and it is no longer called the cross, now it it the christ.

oh, it was painful. now i can't even listen to the cross anymore, cause it was suc and embarrasing experience

You've just summoned a herd of Fams to come and rabidly defend how great that performance was and how happy they are he's found such a fantastic form of spirituality. The rest of us can just barf.

First of all, I'm not a "fam." I'm simply giving my opinion...and it's unbiased. The performance was very charged. It was obvious that he felt what he was playing. That is what music is all about.
You don't have to defend a performance that was obviously heartfelt...if I saw Justin Timberlake perform something with obvious passion, I would give him his due, even thought I dislike him.
I think those who don't like the performance are jaded by the whole JW thing, which is ridiculous, and obsessed to the point of not liking alything that is remotely in synch with their beliefs. I didn't read where anyone thought that they liked it or were haoppy because he found a new form of spirituality. But as an adult, I can I respect his beliefs, just as I respect a Muslim's faith, a Catholics, etc., etc. I mean, grow up. Seriously.

Thank you, you just proved my point.

Pray tell...elaborate on what point was proven, instead of simply stating that I "proved your point." LOL. You're as bad as those who call people left or liberal simply because they say something that isn't in line with the status quo. I think they do that because they really can't think of anything meaningul to say, so they go with the easy out.

Cborgman,
Are U saying that you were embarrassed for Prince?
Or that you were ashamed of his performance?

Prince has never embarrassed me.
"even when he hit the wrong note". hmph!
So...how's everybody doing? smile

"The Christ", with Prince letting LARRY GRAHAM sing half the song, was among his lowest moments. I think we witnessed an artist hitting rock bottom that night.

STAUROS, people!

Larry Graham, Chaka Khan, and Prince doing live music is not hitting rock bottom by any means. Clear your hatred of Prince's religious message and you will see this. Would you call it rock bottom if he just did it as The Cross?

There was nothing wrong with that performance. Plus most African Americans do believe in a supreme being so I am sure know one was offended or ran screaming from the roon.

say what you will about that freaky ass footage of him during JB's concert, but it doesn't begin to make me as embarrased for him as i was when he performed "the christ" at the NAACP awards

it was the essence awards, not naacp. on naacp he performed emancipation.
