Agreed. He cut her off, and she made a big statement about it on Twitter about "no longer working with Prince." That was 2011, I believe, and I have the screenshots because ol' girl - reforming history as she does - eventually removed them after he died.

So yeah, guest of honor my ass.

To be such a longtime Prince fan you sure are clueless.

He didn't "cut her off". She was mad at HIM for replacing her family with that lame Larry Graham band during the oakland show. That's why she said she was no longer going to work with him.

They just are 'haters

.

Sheila is the only one who can perform his songs and do them justice. Even the Revolution (whom I've seen twice since he died) don't get the funkiness and sounds as accurate as she does.

No "they" aren't haters. Y'all wanna wear purple tinted glasses, go ahead. It's no skin off my teeth.

Sheila is a history revisionist; this much we already know.

You guys are assuming she was just so bent out of shape that she forever gave up on being Prince's friend, etc., because of a gig, good on ya.

The truth is just all right in front of us. Choose to believe it or not. Everything U believe is true.

of course it's only hearsay but I would think the people working there would have known these things, same with Prince telling people around him he didn't like her "lies" about him in her book.

I'm kinda glad I never read her book.

Y'all have a weird ass parasocial hatred of Sheila going on here lol I don't know what went down between her and Prince in the last several years of his life, but it's none of my business and I'm not gonna hold a whole grudge against Sheila over some drama nobody knows the true details of.

I loved Sheila and her music.

It's not about what we think went down between them, for me. I agree - some of it is stuff we don't have all the deets on, although sources are pretty clear in a few instances.

Rather, it's about her actions since he died. She is so full of shit, lies, and shenanigans, her true colors are really showing. And they're not peach and black.

It's the lying that I hate, not her.

I'm surprised she's not out there touting herself as The New Power Generation featuring Sheila E.

yeahthat
100 % agree, with this. I love her music and her as a artists but that whole widow act or whatever she has been posing as since Prince died is bordering on creepy.

Or you are blinded by your fandom (I'm asuming that because of you avatar)
the fact she is posing as some gatekeeper on anything 'Prince' is disturbing and misplaced for someone banned from Paisley Park up until Prince's death (trying to block The Revolution, her attempt at trying to block vault releases, demanding that anything she recorded with Prince remains in the vault unreleased etc)

The Star Tribue has a new interview with her. She really acts like she's owed a key to Paisley (she says as much) because she walked on the land with Prince in heels hand-in-hand (the melodrama!) talking about "this is the kitchen, this is studio B," etc.

She literally went on such a media blitzkrieg post-P transition about their phantom "engagement" that a fair amount of casuals actually believe she was his first or second wife.

Yep, that's all she fucking talked about for months. "He proposed on stage during 'Purple Rain'." or whatever. And who was the first person to talk to E.T. less than 24 hours after the funeral service? She was.

But went out to the fans and handed out gifts to the fans? His family did. Not Sheila.

OMG, she sure did say it eek

Those 100's of songs that she says she has in the vault isn't her property, the clothes that Prince had made for her, she didn't pay for.

She's been there from the beginning to just about the end? NO she hasn't.

She's ridiculous

"Absolutely not," she said. "I should have a key to the back door. Are you kidding me? I know you're going to print that in big letters. It's ridiculous.

----------

"As far as any of us, especially me, I'm part of that legacy, as well. Studio B was my studio," she told the Star Tribune. "I walked the ground when [Paisley] was dirt, Prince and I hand in hand, in heels, stepping over dirt — 'Here's Studio B and here's the kitchen' — until that place was built. You have people there [now], some of them weren't even born when Paisley was built. All of it is ridiculous."

-------

"I've been in that place from the beginning to just about the end. I've recorded so much music there. I lived there off and on. I slept there. My clothes were made there. My percussion and drums are in there. I want to get my gear back. I've got tapes, they say 'Escovedo' on it; not even Sheila E. There's no excuse. I have hundreds of songs in the vault."

Not "correcting" anything, but I did want to note: When she started with Prince, they were getting her dressed up and looking a certain way, then she got the bill for it later. They charged her for all that stuff - hair, clothes, etc. She stated how she kept working for Prince to pay it back. And since Paisley Park (as a rubber stamp) wasn't around just yet, it was probably Warner than she ended up paying back, via Prince's Starr Company or whatever.

But yeah, she should know not to claim those are her songs. She should know about masters and ownership.

I tell folks it's the same reason the paparazzi have a job. The person who creates the photo owns the rights to it, not the people in the photo. I used to work in a photo lab, and people used that Kodak Picture Maker to try and copy family portraits by Sears, or Olan Mills. We'd have to walk over and cancel the process because those companies owned the copyright on those for decades.

Sheila E. has since toned down the Prince rhetoric in the past many years since Prince died, but in the first few years? Oh boy.

The prince tattoo with a butterfly added to it, that same "new" symbol plastered over her drum kit, the Girl Meets Boy song, Lemon Cake song and the video with a Cloud guitar in it, the cruise, the book and doing the interview circuit, releasing an America cover on her own album. It's a lot! And I don't think I covered everything. I don't mind that she was the musical coordinator for the TV special.

She co-opted the Prince "brand" for a bit. Now she has backed off and is mostly about herself. I follow her on social media, and "getting her flowers" so to speak . . .

She was on something called The Jason Show, but I couldn't imagine watching it. I have zero faith or truth in her integrity.

I almost wonder if the estate said, "down shift" on her co-opting the branding.

Speaking of tattoos: I've always wanted the butterfly fold out from The Beautiful Experience EP somewhere prominent.

But maybe without the title.

She was on The Jason Show and mentioned Prince did, in fact, re-record "Bad" by MJ. She said they were at Paisley Park, and did a really funky, fun version of the song.

But then he immediately erased it.

Her dates are wrong. PP opened in Sept 1987, but Bad came out in August. I mean, it's reasonable to think maybe he was already in there working by the time of the official opening. It's also possible she's not remembering, and they were at Sunset Sound.
