You were right. I spent many a night at a club, or Paisely, or Glam Slam, or Ruperts or ??? on the rumor he might be playing...and he offten did.
The glory days of such, for me, were the Erotic City shows he did at Glam Slam MPLS; those were so cool with the coldcuts and the food laid out, and, if I remember, the cover was like $5 or so and he would just be at his most The Artist coming out at 2 AM or so.
Dose where da days. | |

All in the Detroit area, about 6 or 7. Two in our biggest arena at the time (now demolished), once in our biggest outdoor venue, and 3-4 in our downtown smaller clubs. I have to go back and look to be 100% sure.

I was there very front center! It was also my first show! I think he played being late off because he was talking to his wife. But I think it was due to it being all general admission.(by area). We had floor tickets and came from Las Cruces and stood in line for HOURS! But we were some of the very first to get in and onto the floor... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I saw him once, in LA in 2011 or so, during the 21 nights show at the Forum. It was fine. It was slick. The gold body suit. I don't think any rare songs were performed that night. My favorite parts were hearing his voice for the first time as he introduced Nikka Costa, and thinking "wow, that's really him and he's here." Later, he looked directly into the camera, and his face was broadcast staring out into the arena, and we all lost our collective minds. It was a totally diverse crowd, too, which i loved. I remember a bunch of people were allowed onstage to dance, and older white woman with big glasses and bare arms was among them, and she was into it, so Prince lead her downstage center and let her do her thing, which was wonderful. But I've never had enough money to make arena shows worth the time. I always sit in the back half, and the performer is always a speck of light, like a tinkerbell. There's the screens, and that's cool, but I'm alway kind of bored. If there's any spontaneity occurring, maybe somewhere near the stage, it rarely reaches up to my section, and the whole thing makes me feel like a lookie-loo, gazing down on other people's good time. My experiences… . 1- September 26, 1997 - Jam of the Year - GM PLACE, Vancouver BC . Graham Central Station opened. Had decent seats, lower part of 100 level directly across from stage. . 2- September 27, 1997 - Jam of the Year - Gorge Amphitheater - George, WA . Chaka Khan opened. Awesome seats, 7th row on the floor, just left of center with his piano directly in front of us - perfect for the show stopping “How Come U Don’t Call Me” . 3- September 28, 1997 - Jam of the Year - Rose Garden - Portland, OR . Chaka Khan opened. Less good seats but still 100 level . 4- April 29, 2002 - One Nite Alone - Paramount Theatre - Seattle, WA . Balcony. My preference in that venue. Loved when Maceo came up to the balcony. . 5- August 31, 2004 - Musicology - Key Arena - Seattle, WA . Favorite time seeing him - 4th row floor . 6- December 19, 2011 - Welcome 2 America - Tacoma Dome, WA . Crummiest seats I ever had to one of his shows, but they were only $20 each, still so worth it . 7- April 26, 2014 - Live Out Loud - The Joint (Hard Rock Hotel) - Las Vegas . Balcony. 2nd show of the night. . 8- April 27, 2014 - Live Out Loud - The Joint - Las Vegas . Balcony. 2nd show. Loved hearing “Dreamer” live and great covers of “Let’s Go” and “Crimson and Clover.” Never would’ve guessed in a million years it would be my last time seeing him perform. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Well 21 Nights was mostly priced at $25, so it definitely didn't break the bank. I discovered that even great seats that were priced much higher, were eventually repriced at $25.

Saw LOVESEXY tour on 2 of the three nights it played at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago. Had front row seats for the second night and mind was blown.
Have lost count of how many times I have seen him since but fondly remember HIT N RUN and MUSICOLOGY tours in Atlanta and saw two shows of his 3121 residency at The O2 in London.
Best memory is getting backstage access at a show in Atlanta at Symphony Hall when I was working at the Woodruff Arts Center which housed the venue. Was able to watch the soundcheck from the wings and his dressing room was about 30 yards down the hall from my office (but there were curtains to prevent any watching him come/go....but we could smell the incense). I was at the Musicology show in Columbus in 2004. It was at the Schottenstein Center and I didn't have the best seats but it was a great show- c'mon the Question of U and an acoustic set? That was my last Prince concert. My first was the Hit N Run tour in Oakland at the Coliseum. I want to say it was 2000 or 2001. I remember Geneva was dancing with him at that time and I was in the 2nd row due to being in the NPGMC. [Edited 5/31/24 1:14am]

Yes 27 times (aftershows front row sometimes) from 86' till 14'. "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search."

i know seeing it on TV/in the cinema is diff to actually being there (does depend a lot on your seats) but if you were at one of the 87/88 shows (i was not), idk how anything after that would not be a slight step down...

Four times during the Musicology tour (front row tickets at one, courtesy of the NPGMC pre-sale). Including the "warm-up" show in Reno. Once during the Rio residency, early March 31, 2007. Sheila E made a guest appearance. Candy Dulfer was also in town (I saw her March 30) and I remember her and her band being at the Rio, but PrinceVault doesn't mention that
