Seriously, if that's all it is then I will be 100% convinced that the estate are actually going out of their way to piss people off. "Stay tuned for a special announcement about Musicology". One song that, while relatively new to me, was already released 20 years ago as a B-side does not equal a "special announcement". It has to be more than that. It has to be. Doesn't it? Please tell me it does.
Yes it seems very odd to make an announcement for just one song and doesn't make any sense. They could easily put together a Musicology vault disc and release it.

hopefully there is more, but much of what the estate does doesn't make sense.

I'm not expecting them to go all out with a 6 disc set or anything like that. Although I'd very much appreciate it if they did. But surely a 2 disc re-release with 12-15 bonus tracks plus a DVD of one of the shows from the Musicology tour isn't too much to ask. A smaller scale release like that still leaves the second half of the year open for the rumoured Purple Rain SDE as well.

They could've really quickly and easily put together a little sampler EP of remastered b-sides and a few vault tracks and still had much left over whenever they want to go all out with Musicology era. Disappointing. No ambition.

Well after this amateurish move by the estate today, I'm not so sure there will even be a PR SDE this year. It's a miracle that they managed to release the D&P set last year.

It was already prepared by the last Estate, that's why.

If I'm understanding this correctly, they released United States Of Division on Spotify and other streaming platforms. Soon afterwards, they announce that there will be an announcement regarding Musicology. Then, a day later they announce that United States Of Division is released. I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone or something. This is just appalling in every way. I don't think anyone here was really expecting much but this is actually so bad it's kind of funny in a sort of tragic way.

Half the n00bs on the YouTube comments and reddit are acting like this is some newly unearthed gem from the deep catacombs of The Vault so maybe the Estate felt like they just found the ultimate outtakes and didn't bother to do search on princevault either.

That timeline is correct and embarrassing but at the same time no surprise. What a way to run a company/estate.

Every now and then, something happens which really puts into perspective of what a poor state Prince’s music is in.

What we’ve just witnessed is one of Prince’s B-sides being made available on streaming services, and this is an event worthy of a special announcement and press coverage? This song was even described in the official announcement as “a rare Prince track” despite the fact that the official CD single has been available to pick up on eBay for two decades for just a few dollars.

The issue that Prince’s long out of print 12” mixes, B-sides and affiliate projects (NPG, Madhouse, The Family, Jill Jones, all the various Paisley Park and NPG record albums) are not available digitally is something that should have been resolved years ago.

We’re 8 years and 2 management teams deep into preserving Prince’s music and only 4 of Prince’s 39 studio albums has been remastered, dozens of affiliate recordings are not available to stream or download (including Newpower Soul which is pretty much a solo Prince album in everything but name), and there are still albums missing from their lack lusted series of vinyl and CD re-issues.

Instead we’re supposed to fly and flag and celebrate now that ‘United States of Division’ is now available on Spotify? It just highlights how far away we are from where we should be. What a joke!

Shame... They could have also released "Glasscutter" and "Magnificent."

Since the update in the sound/mix is pretty good, at least to me, in "United States of Division,"
I would also love to have "Magnificent" and "Silver Tongue" released again.

I think "Glasscutter" is already a new era, one of the first releases recorded for what in the end
became Lotusflow3r.

I literally don't remember what any of these sound like.

I was really, really disenfranchised with Prince during the early aughts. Even Musicology didn't win me back over 100%, but 3121 and Planet Earth pulled me back in more. So these internet releases and all the iterations of the NPGMC (of which I was never a member) just sorta went unnoticed or un-cared-about from/for me.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Then someone will bring up they used Little Red Corvette in a Pringles ad or something and everyone stooges up, "I SUPPORT THE ESTATE MAKING MONEY TO GIVE US THE THINGS WE WANT."

LIke what, D&P sde? A re-release of a 20 year old track to hype up the n00bs" we've been supporting their lame decisions for 8 years and only have 4 sdes to show for it.

The sad thing is outside the org the fanbase does seem pretty satisfied with this. Usually paisley park girl or someone throws some shade toward the org about being negative nancy curmudgeonly misers who try to ruin everybody's good time, but even the most ardent Prince positivity fan has to be aghast at how 50% of the fans just lap up and feast up these poor excuses for table scraps.

"Another banger from The Vault!" oh, if only.

What's next, "newly unearthed from The legendary Prince Vault.... 'Kamasutra'!"? 'One Nite Alone'?
