Partyman I know it's not, but could Partyman almost be considered a Camille track?

Why would it not be?
I feel like "Camille" tracks are anything with the upward pitch shift. That includes stuff before he was using the label like "Erotic City" or stuff eras later like "3121".

Perhaps I was anticipating raising the ire of the resident naysayers and know-it-alls.

The Camille songs were good though, and had some sort of melody. Partyman was a total throwaway!

Let's remember Scarlet Pussy is a Camille track too. Doesn't sound like one though.

Also, "Scarlet Pussy" was officially credited to Camille with a 'black album' motif on the vinyl. Does that mean all of the BA was Camille??? Autopen Signature

Only the songs credited to camille.

I wonder if Prince had to take on the persona of Camille while recording those songs, in much the same way a method actor becomes a character. Also, I wonder if there are tracks in the vault credited to Spooky Electric??

"Scarlett Pussy" invalidates this entire angle of yours.

Other songs could include:
F.U.N.K Ol Skool Company Dance 4 Me Funk N Roll FallInLove2Nite [Edited 3/29/24 8:25am]

I still get chills thinking about when P just launched into Partyman outta nowhere at that Tamar show at the Electric Factory in 06. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Just go ahead and make the whole list! That would be the climax of this thread (NAACP playback performance of an unreleased remix of "Emancipation") Autopen Signature

Partyman is a great throwaway song The batman album was largely throwaway but partyman at least felt like it was a fully developed song Also a lot of fun and it has a good video too

The Lovesexy tour book liner notes literally say Camille created the Black Album. I mean Camille is Prince, so duh but yeah that would 'officially' credit both TBA and Lovesexy to Camille. It also specifically genders Camille as 'he' and 'boy' - so every time some article lazily refers to Camille as "Prince's feminine alter-ego" you know they're a hack. . Re: Is Partyman a Camille track? Officially credited? No. Using the vocal pitched technique? Yes. I also think a soft 'yes' because Feel U Up was chosen as the b-side and it being closer in time to the credited Camille tracks in general. Just speaking personally, Camille is not just Prince, but Prince in that time period. So if I was making a Camille "special edition" compilation for myself, I'd have Love or $, Sex, Partyman as 'bonus tracks' but not say 3121, P-Funk, Come On etc - that's just me, you make your own mind up.

"Rockhard In A Funky Place" I think it is the veil of the voice that makes it "Camille". "Camille" being a -one era- name, but the same concept used at other times. In "1+1+1 is 3" you can hear that voice encouraging Prince to "play wit' it!" Autopen Signature

Camille or not, partyman is a certified banger (if more straightforwardly banging than we maybe expected from 80s prince). His last great single of the 80s?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Well, it literally is. The remaining singles from the 80s (Arms Of Orion and Scandalous) were anything but bangers.
