Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing 4K UHDs of their streaming shows, Disney, of "The Disney Vault" Disney, literally the biggest physical media producer for decades, with literally the most devoted physical media consumers in all of media, stopped producing their own physical media a month ago and entered a license agreement with Sony to distribute their physical media.

Because physical media is dying, just like I said.

Even literal Disney recognizes it, so why play contrarian?

The time to get special features was for that 20th Anniversary DVD, released at probably the height of bonus content in media.

You could not possibly be more correct. I miss that era of physical media. Even the most bullshit movie would be loaded with features like commentaries, special effect screens, isolated scores, interviews with every person even vaguely related to the project. I would watch everything and feel great about my purchase, I almost never feel that way now when buying a movie now.

There would've been *copies* at Paisley in the form of whatever VHS, Beta, Umatic, or videotape workprints and dailies for the film. When those investigation photos were released, we saw into the video vault and even saw some random goodies laying around the house; in some of the basement storage pics, around the vault door, you can even see a shipping chest for prints of UTCM and then countless cans in the video vault and elsewhere.

Now, negative trims could be a different story. The scenes are around somewhere in some form, they had to at least be edited into the trailer, but we know even a scene that made it into the final theatrical edit was accidentally discarded or lost and had to be sourced from a lower quality workprint, so it's up to fate.

I say BRING ON THE UNUSED MUSIC CUES!!! Unless the barn scene has a better shot of Looney Kotero's tits... then we can talk turkey.

German retailer JPC has listed the 4K UHD as a Steelbook release, with both a 4K UHD disc and a regular Blu-ray. Release date 27 June.

German site bluray-disc.de says it is a limited edition Steelbook, with German and English audio and only German subtitles. This seems odd to me: I doubt Warners is producing a separate disc for the German market. Usually it produces discs for the whole of Europe, with numerous language options (English + German + French + Spanish etc.) as well as subtitles for plenty of languages.

Technical details: 3840x2160p UHD (1.78:1) @24 Hz 4K native, HDR10, HEVC, BD-66.

That "BD-66" suggests the 4K UHD disc contains only the movie. If the enclosed Blu-ray is merely a repeat of the previous 2016 release, it might very well be possible we're not getting any new extras.
