Strange Relationship & Trust Cancelled Singles? Others? I just heard a Shep Pettibone rexmix of Trust and I could swear hearing (at the time) that Trust was going to be a US single... but it never happened
Since Strange Relationship got a remix - it makes we wonder if it was also planned to be a single at some point?
Does anybody know? And also wondering in which order they were supposed to be released? Example, was SR supposed to be the single after UGTL? or was there a last minute change, etc
And are there any other cancelled singles?
I'd love to know and thanks very much

Probably after its release on Sign O’ The Times, Prince commissioned Shep Pettibone to remix the song, possibly around the same time he also remixed "Hot Thing." The "1987 Shep Pettibone Club Mix" remained unreleased at the time, but was released on Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition in 2020. - Princevault Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Wasn't Lovesexy supposed to be a single? I remember they were working on a remix in the Paisley Park documentary

at an early stage,"The Question Of U" was planned as the first single from Graffiti Bridge.

yes,it was originally planned as the second single (which would have been a wise choice) but Prince changed his mind and chose "Glam Slam" instead

A Million Days was planned as the second single from Musicology. Radio reception was weak, so it was then shelved and replaced by Call My Name. I was a bit perplexed at the choice of both singles though. I would have picked Dear Mister Man instead.

I think Prince “moved on” from the SOTT album too soon.Yes,we all know that he would always get bored with a project soon after it is released, but I think SOTT had at least 2 more potential singles.I recall a Warner Bros.record exec basically saying the same thing. They wanted more time with this album.

There's The Hot Xperience, a 12" of Hot Wit U remixes. There's also the Papa EP, a 1993 birthday release including Papa, Come, Peach and Race. I figure out the most different versions here must be Come and Race.

Call My Name was the official second single, it charted like for 27 weeks in the Hot 100. Be it released physically or not, that's not the point. Since the mid 90's, labels opted to not release systematically every single physically, in order to not cannibalize albums sales. Betcha By Golly Wow wasn't released physically in the US, but was the obvious lead single from Emancipation. IIRC, by 1998, singles without physical release were allowed to chart in the hot 100. By 2004, sales counted only for 20% and AirPlay 80%. Concerning a Million Days, I saw a news from insider source at the time announcing it was to be the second single. So I don't know if it was ever made official, but at least some people in the knows heard that was Sony plan. Hence the fact a music video was even shot, which proves it. Because you don't shoot a video if you don't intend to use it as a tool to promote a single. That's logical. [Edited 3/12/24 7:54am] [Edited 3/12/24 7:55am]

Prince shot videos for alot of (even unreleased) tracks so just because he shot a video doesn't mean it was to be a single. [Edited 3/12/24 8:14am]

Because in my first listenings of the album, that was my very choice of an obvious 2nd single to pick,

Cinnamon Girl was a heavy rotation video on MTV Europe back in 2004. You couldn't finish your morning coffee without seeing it! "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

He did this all the time though.
What about the Kevin Smith documentary? Half the Vault is video shoots he didn't do anything with.

True there was nothing done in Europe to promote the album , and no concert at all, no tv performance. It lacked a European Call My Name to drive the album sales a little.

musicology should have had cinnamon girl as the first single but this was the era when princes first singles were almost always the R&B songs

It worked somehow, rhe only problem is that it didn't get massive AirPlay. Too oldschool mayybe.

Ironically, it was never really a proper "single" in the "old school" sense. i was actually expecting that there would be a 12"/maxi single with an extended version. "...don't u hear this old-school joint?!!" "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

[Edited 3/13/24 8:03am] In the Netherlands, it stayed 7 weeks in the top 100 and peaked at #32 in its 4th week, so it had legs. And why would people buy the single ? The b-side was the terrible On The Couch already on the album ! Dutch are smart people and preferred buying the album : it spent the 7 weeks of the single charting, in the top 10 album. So Musicology the single clearly sold the album ( which would spend 30 more discountinuous weeks in the top 100).

So many of my peers clowned hard on lame "Musicology" back in high school. Track was so whack/lame.
