Remaster of Diamonds and Pearls album - comments? I had an old posting that I can no longer respond to. My biggest issue with the 1991 D&P album was that the low end was not full. Live 4 Love was meant to be dynamic- screaming guitars and aggressive bas. He had a new band and it was powerful. I always felt the lies did not get their due. I am happy to say, I think they corrected that. I also think they refined the highs. Some muting is happening to control any high end smearing. The title cut’s high hat is def muted. Overall, this is great. I never felt the album needed an overhaul.

I'm not a fan of the 2023 remaster. Listening on my stereo hi-fi setup, compared with the original masters, most tracks sound more muffled. This extends to the B-sides/single versions disc as well, especially Gett Off (Damn Near 10 mins) which is nowhere near the quality of the vinyl rip that I've been listening to for years. The gaps between the tracks have been altered (e.g. following Willing and Able, there's now a longer gap before the scream of Gett Off begins). I understand that this will be considered very minor nitpicks to most, but it's emblematic of a general disrespect that's been shown to the original vision. The first two drum hits have been cut off the beginning of the album version of Money Don't Matter 2 Night. Strollin' and Call the Law sound great though.

Can someone could exactly highlight the differences between the 1991 and 2023 versions ? Only listened to the remaster once, and didn't hear any flagrant differences-beside it is louder.

I don't think the new remaster is an improvement like SOTT was , or even 1999. It was still an improvement however.
The bass is definitely deeper. The highs are tamer. I mean, they don't bleed or get shreiky at high volumes. If you listen to the Diamonds and Pearls, during the quite parts, the high hat or cymbals are more muted then before. Thunder had some hight sort of bled....all that is now cleaned up.
Another excellent remaster, albeit, theh original album did not require the resuce mission Sign 'O The Times was.

Money Don't Matter 2 Night used to be really distorted, some awful high end clipping ... That is corrected which is really great, that always bugged me. But I didn't realize they lopped off drum hits, wtf?

Objectively speaking, for music lovers, it is difficult for us to realize what needs to be edited. Creating a piece of music really requires many combined elements. From the words, the melody and the musical notes. Everything needs to be perfect. Especially with the 1991 D&P album, it is also the creator's meaning.
