We Can Fuck Sometimes I can't believe this exists the way it does. Just complete subversion from top to bottom, mental is an understatement. One of the most brilliant things he ever committed to tape.

I wholeheartedly agree. The original 83 version on the Purple Rain Deluxe is so damn brilliant, sexy, funky, and perfect all around. I never get tired of playing it. “To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings, and I would – I don’t know, I wish it upon everybody. It’s heaven.” – Prince

Are the vocals in this version copied and pasted to the Graffiti Bridge version? I tried listen to the two versions back to back with good headphones and they sound exactly the same to me. What do you guys think?

every version of it is worthwhile. but the 83/84 version might be the most intense. theres several songs where he got that crazed (eg. it, lady cab driver), but this one might top them all. incredible. the 85/86 version is also great, but it has a more melancholy vibe somehow IIRC. not heard it in a long time.

lustmealways said: Sometimes I can't believe this exists the way it does. Just complete subversion from top to bottom, mental is an understatement. One of the most brilliant things he ever committed to tape. Agreed. The screams are among his best. The ‘86 isn’t as intense because of that.

I remember thinking I would never like the orignal version as much as the 86 one as the 86 is one of my all time faves. Then I heard it on the Purple Rain deluxe and proved myself wrong. Its brilliant. Now I forget the 86 one exists

This early one has grown on me, but '86 is the one I prefer: give me chills.

According to Duane Prince recorded the original version of WCF over a 24 hour period covering New Years Day from 1983 to 1984. Oh, to be a fly on the wall that night!

The 83’ version absolutely floored me when it was released. Immediately shot up to my favorite prince song. From a musicians perspective………this song makes no sense. Yet it’s definitely one of the best things he ever put to tape, absolutely genius.

Amazing song!! Loved it since I first heard it on Purple Rain Deluxe in 2017 and now even more. In my top 5 of all Prince's songs in his entire catalogue.

The sh*tshow that was that reissue was worth it JUST FOR THIS Damn, he was in a league of his own, wasn't he?

I couldn't agree more! ALL versions are great But from the the understated, flanged voice and minimal funk in the Miko version to the P-funk version on GB., I can't pick a favorite version.
The screams and ahhh - ahhhs background vocals at the end of the GB version is what makes that one powerful.
The 86 version is simply my favorite version of Prince, The more minimal, funk/electronic compositions he did were the best.
But I can't pick which I like best.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the '83 original version was the template for the Graffiti Brdige version and it was made using the multitracks for that version in conjunction with some new instrumentation and Geroge Clinton and company's parts added to it

This is an absolute career highlight to me. You can litterally hear the transition of artist development from 1999 to Purple Rain in one song, whist also hearing the birth of Around the World in A Day. .

The stuff that Prince was coming up with during the 1999 and Purple Rain eras, mindblowing.

'86 version is so much better. Prince fans really overrate the vocal quirks. The version where he humps the mic verbally tends to be the fan fav.

You mean the 'Expanded Revolution' version where Prince calls out Miko to do a solo and then it fades out? Yeah! Top notch! Um, i mean, no, actually. The freaky, original, all-Prince version is what makes somebody a Prince fan. Why don't U want 2 B 1? "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

Again, it's the same beat as the George Clinton version...?

Uh what?
His voice is his personality. Its the first thing most ppl think of when they think of prince Ie if youre a fan, i assume you like his voice. Id be curious how many fans dont care for his voice. The voice is actually a lot to do with why many prince songs arent as good when others cover his songs But 2.5 notches above appolonia? Have you heard the beautiful ones?! [Edited 1/1/24 6:01am]

That's a pretty contrarian thing to say about such an accomplished vocalist, both in the studio and on stage.
