Prince Estate Civil War: Heirs Battle In New Lawsuit https://www.billboard.com...235580400/ "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

The nastier it gets, the better this is a perfect script for a Netflix series. - "Mega Supestar Prince fucks up his own legacy with leaving no will, and tons of unreleased music, to... no one. 'And when the elevator tries to bring you down...', our hero goes crazy and dies in his own elevator, in his own recording studio, where he lived like a lonely fallen star for the last years of his life. Leaving his heirs up for nasty legal battles, for years to come. Sign up to see the first season, of 12 episodes..." "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I really enjoyed the last estate threads, during the Comerica times, so anyone else want to share some popcorn while we sit back and enjoy? There may or may not be something coming!

This sounds horrendous.

Sharon is the main reason for all this mess.
Shame on her.
She brought them in. And now she wants them out [Edited 1/12/24 10:07am]

What great news from the Prince Estate to start off 2024... [Edited 1/12/24 11:27am] "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

“lawsuit claims that both women then attempted to unilaterally sell their shares in the holding company to Primary Wave” Is this perhaps the real prompt for the lawsuit? There may or may not be something coming!

i've never bought a bootleg yet, but i think i'll start now! "Whatever skin we're in

Q would primary wave do a better job than mcmillan and spicer? Either way this is further proof of the mess prince left things in (shame McMillan never got prince to write a will when they began working together) and i hope this doesnt ruin any releases planned this year. I suspect not as they must know they need releases to make some money. I hope.

Primary Wave has experience in handling music catalogues, and their focus is on getting money from sales, rather than operating purely on ego and emotion, as it seems to be the case given many of the recent decisions that have been made.

What a clusterfuck. None of these clowns should be anywhere close to being in charge of the estate. Neither Londell/Charles nor any of the siblings.

The current system doesn’t seem to be working. Someone else in control could be good… or at least better!

Even if Prince had left a will, the heir/heirs could still have sold their shares and ended in a similar situation. The orger formerly known as https://prince.org/profil...nglishGent

Prince just did what he did and never cared about the management of the "legacy"--beyond the natural longevity of his lyrics + music. U must admit and accept (says the Thought Policeman)! Personally, I think that Prince knew what was up when his time would be up! Who knows what the remaining contesting heirs are angling toward with their actions? Maybe we'll be lucky or unlucky enough to find out!

I suspect not as they must know they need releases to make some money. I hope. At this point who else is there? They ran everyone else Prince literally suggested, via his sister, away. PW at least understands the contracts they'd be signing. Which we see the ppl currently involved don't even read theirs. It's not even a choice at this point. I don't understand why the heirs do not sell out to Primary Wave and therefore McMillan and Spicer would no longer be in the picture, presumably.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Because they can't. Because of the contract they've signed (without reading it).

It s sad but that's what lawyers do to make their living : suing everybody they can sue. We all want new releases, but frankly, that's a very small part of their business, and they could well do without. MJ estate last released a new MJ album ( 8 songs!) Ten years ago. That don't prevent him from topping regularly the Forbes top 10 deceased celebrities since. Prince is regularly in the top 5 too : the money is obviously not coming from new releases, but from licensing deals, etc.

MJ audience is different, though. They can't get enough of those same 10 hits. It's probably their 847,573,557,437th spin of "Thriller" but they're like "thank you sir may I have another?" Whereas Prince audience generally chokes back the bile upon hyper-focus on his one-hit wonder.

And they are more numerous to buy this unreleased stuff when released, than Prince fans buy new releases. By the way that's obviously not out of these releases that Prince estate earned 30 millions$ last year, and that was my point here : https://www.forbes.com/si...y-houston/

FrankieCoco1 said: “lawsuit claims that both women then attempted to unilaterally sell their shares in the holding company to Primary Wave” Is this perhaps the real prompt for the lawsuit? . I think this is almost certainly the reason. And would probably be far better for us if it happens. Primary Wave will want more releases and his catalog fully available.
