old friends for sale & crystal ball were both planned for rerelease under the old estate.. not sure if that still stands? They obviously have them printed by this picture.. D&P super deluxe stayed.. so I’d assume this and crystal ball will get a release soon.. |

It is a pretty hideous cover, there's no getting around it... but the contents of the album, I really like!
REALLY hoping this gets a vinyl release soon. Would love to have this on vinyl, along with Newpower Soul, NEWS and the others from that era that haven't seen a vinyl release yet....

I used to work for Coconuts records when I was in college back in the day and claimed the promo copy of this and it was a plain black and white cover that just said Prince: The Vault - Old Friends 4 Sale. Had no idea what the actual cover was for years. I played the hell out of it!
Then fast forward to like 10 years ago I saw this in a bargin bin at my local wrecka stow and I thought, SCORE! Cool bootleg! Then realized it was this! Not sure if thats what was the intention to make it look like a bootleg with bad cover art, but it fooled me for a minute. lol |

The Vault had a Sony Legacy reissue in February 2022 but only on CD - a vinyl version has not been released and not confirmed either. There may or may not be something coming! |

This would be a scandalous great cover, with dirty fonts all over it! And call it "Punch A higher Floor" And fill it up with dirty unrleased sexy funk tunes. The one controversial thing that really made Prince great and famous, the scandalous apporach.

I doubt the vinyl re-issue will have anything that wasn’t on the CD release. Sony’s re-releases so far have tended to use a scan or something like that for the art work.
Funkenberry on Facebook has said this is going to be available at Target too. Hopefully this is the start of some kind of release a month 🤞 [Edited 1/14/24 13:16pm] [Edited 1/14/24 13:17pm] There may or may not be something coming! |

Not spotted before but it says on the Prince discography page about this album on: https://discography.princ...nds-4-sale that “The enclosed material was written during the period beginning 1/23/1985 and ending 6/18/1994 and was originally intended 4 private use only." It also says, “The title track, “Old Friends 4 Sale,” is the earliest song on the album, with the original recording taking place in 1985 while Prince was working on the Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack album Parade.” Prince Vault has the recording date for this song as 20 April 1985 - https://princevault.com/i...nds_4_Sale So Prince must have initially written the song ‘Old Friends 4 Sale’ on 23 January 1985, then recorded it 3 months later on 20 April 1985 - Prince Vault doesn’t tell us writing dates, just tracking/recording dates. By the way, on 23 January 1985, Prince did the third of 3 consecutive nights at the Riverfront Coliseum, Cincinnati. https://princevault.com/i...nuary_1985 There may or may not be something coming! |
