It doesn't mean it's not a viable option for official release. We have substandard quality items. The estate likely has the original recordings. (eg: Syracuse).

It's fine to release more than 2 things a year. They've missed an opportunity to release a Piano and a Microphone series. Doesn't have to be forever, but a trilogy would be fun. Or 5 albums worth.

Same for live stuff. There are some popular and classic shows bootlegged that we could easily have and they'd clean up a bootleg market. Make it a Prince: On The Mic, On The Stage series. Anything would be nice.

HOwever, that said we are getting live stuff. There's Syracuse, plus videos for the Glam Slam Show for D&P, a 1999-era DVD. They really missed releasing the Ultrecht DVD with SOTT. The NYE show is fine and all, but why not release a real SOTT show that had full staging separately (but at the same time), and put the Ultrecht show in SOTT? Who the hell knows at this point.

I'm just waiting on Parade SDE. AND speaking of that, I almost suspect they could - and they probably won't - do a Revolution series. The Purple Rain remaster (proper) seems inevitable next year, then ATWIAD and Parade after. Boom, boom, boom. 18 month campaign starting next spring, get 'er done. We know there are some Parade era shows that could be put on either of the latter two disks, OR if there's good footage of the First Ave '85 show for ATWIAD, then something like Paris for Parade (because - that's where IGBABN was recorded - makes 110% sense).

The 86 Paris Zenith show is a must! Video snippets of the show are going aroound for years so it was proshot filmed plus Prince announcing during the show that it's being recorded for release.

I truly hope for First Avenue 83 video on the Purple Rain SDE and First Avenue 84 as a standalone bluray

So, along with Detroit and Yokohama that is three proshot concerts.

I never understood how folks wish for an official release of readily availlable material. You already have it!

There's a vault (allegedly) full of stuff we all never even imagined, and we're running out of time.

You’re absolutely right!! They should make this amazing concert readily available on official platforms as well as others!! Yeah, it’s readily available for us prince.orgers via bootleg.. but really should be given attention and an actual release on streaming services..

The release of small club shouldn’t in anyway take away from a release of something else.. Prince was a genius.. and anything that shows his genius should be made available for anyone searching on Spotify or Apple Music.. which is where 99% of people get there music

True but that final show in Japan.. that final revolution show.. that will definitely be the show they’ve gone with.. I mean.. it’s the final revolution show.. and they’ve show footage of it at paisley.. and I for one AM ALL FOR IT.

Well, they did say they are proshots, so it's likely multi-shot material.

And let's not think that Prince doesn't have a video of every show he did. Multiple band members talk about him gathering everyone to watch the show after the show, to point out mistakes or whatever. We'll never see them all, but I fully believe 90% of his shows have been filmed.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I was at 'small club'. It was a great night, like all aftershows are, but at the time. it didn't feel like a 'classic'. I think it only became that because it was the first aftershow to leak in such quality.

I know what you mean. Think of the pro-shot videos that have leaked already: Paris and New York from the Dirty Mind tour, Stockholm'86... They are professionally filmed but still very rough and not somwthing that could be comercially released. Still, I'd pay top money to watch anything off that list!

The aftershow [trojan horse] was filmed by a professional film crew. A video release would be fantastic.

Yeah. It was the first 'proof' of the aftershows and added to the story of prince as the guy who could do a full concert then do a club gig right after, the genius stuff, etc etc. But aftershows are pretty loose, in my opinion, and idk if that adds up to great home listening (that's my personal preference). But as a document, yeah, small club is important.

[Edited 12/23/23 8:50am]

Magnoli's film crew that shot all the footage back then for Prince were in Amsterdam at there hotel when the aftershow in the Hague was going on. They didn't film anything. The dutch docu crew who were there that night filming footage for a nightlife doc were told to leave and didn't film it.
The only footage that some have seen was from backstage right before the show and footage from the venue stage camera that was recorded by someone who worked there and erased the original tape after making two copies.

There is a professional video recording of the aftershow. For obvious reasons, I am unable to be more specific. The tape exists and there is a copy outside the vault.

In 1990 I met the guy from they nightlife docu and he mentioned what you describe here. He told me he saw Prince only once at a concert in The Hague but didn’t like the music played over there that evening. He was there by chance and was allowed to stay and watch under the promise not to film anything.

I didn’t believe the story somuch at that moment but a day later het gave me the ticket of the show with the remark that I would appreciate it more.

Small Club 88 is not a good release, because everybody and their moms already got a copy razz

There are a gazillion other aftershows they can release in soundboard.

The dutch docu crew who were there that night filming footage for a nightlife doc were told to leave and didn't film it
In 1990 I met the guy from they nightlife docu and he mentioned what you describe here. He told me he saw Prince only once at a concert in The Hague but didn’t like the music played over there that evening. He was there by chance and was allowed to stay and watch under the promise not to film anything. I didn’t believe the story somuch at that moment but a day later het gave me the ticket of the show with the remark that I would appreciate it more.

last year or in 2022 I went to the 50th anniversary of 't Paard and there wee some people telling stories about that night Prince played and abotu the audi recoding but also about the 45 minute black and white footage with almost unrecognisable audio that wasn't worth revisiting according to them, and again the story of the doc crew that was sent away and Magnoli who did wanted to film it but the film crew was stuck in Amsterdam.
The people who worked there also told small bits f it and about the stage camera that recoded the whole thing and the strict no taping rule from Prince's people.

To the person above who says it wa Pro shot, that's not true (acording to Magnoli, 't Paard people and the people in attendance who didn't see any film crew) the only footage that was shared to some 2 yars ago was a 15-20 sceond sample footage from backstage filmed by the same guy who owned the stage camera, and a 15 second sample of Housequake filmed with the stage camera. Teh guy also told the story how he recoded over the tape after making 2 copies that he doesn't know if they still exist (we know where those 2 video tapes are tho and why.)
