Am I really the first person in this thread to point out the obvious - that it's a sample of a dolphin or whale sounds.
.
They're singing about 'searching in the sea of tranquility and 'drowning without you' - so I guess a sea animal sound is meant to give a sense of being underwater (even if it's a waterless feature on the moon!)

A dolphin or whale. That would makes sense. I still hear a squeaky door, though.

Space is a vacuum where sound can't travel.

Yeah I thinkk we all know that. But anyway, there were some sound effects libraries available for film or whatever that had the alarm clock from Starfish and Coffee, teh market sales man from If I was You girlfriend, the city noice (hey that's my taxi!) from Lady Cab Driver, the barroom brawl, boxing match from Pop Life, the baby sound at the end of Delirious, the electric spill from Housequake and this shooting star sound effect used in Teh Arms of Orion and probably much more that Prince used on songs.

Thanks! The sound effect at 0:03 and 2:08 sounds exactly like it could be that.
But there's an extra sound effect at 2:07 that sounds like a squeaky door.

Yup!
That's not a shooting star, that's the sound of someone letting air out of a balloon.
The first of, let's say two hundred "Whatever skin we're in

Prince was using samples of the orchestrations and atmospheric sounds that Danny Elfman had created for the score, so maybe it's from that ?
PS don't know why the text is grey!?? |

Except that sound effect was also labeled as a shooting star on some fx libraries.
this topic has been repeated for decades now with all this information already known. Someone once posted a vinyl set of SFX libraries with all these samples on it that Prince used and another set with additional SFX and Star Wars effect that he apparently alspo used on tracks.

I understand, but, like always, it is known to some people. As long as it's not clearly recorded on a proper site, such as PrinceVault, people will keep discussing the same things. I've been online for 30 years now and I've never seen this discussed.
Yeah, I know, we have to "do the work", yadi yadi yada. But we also have lives, children, jobs, etc. My head can't hold all that information.

I declare this one a GREAT song! The noise? It's the squeaky wheel, of course.

[Edited 12/17/23 11:16am] It’s Defoe originally a dolphin, it’s saying ‘Don’t buy Graffiti Bridge. I’m sorry.’ It was then played backwards and Prince then sang that himself. Speeded up slightly. Comin str8 outta Preston... |
