It's not surprising. Londell is one hundred percent a scam artist, and as long as he's involved, Prince's legacy will suffer

I simply do not understand why, as the majority stakeholder, Primary Wave, is not making noises. I have no time for McMillan or that other wanker Spicer.

You think it was as professional when Prince was still there? wink

Been asking that for years. It's obvious whoever is running things, or interferring in things was probably a Michael Jackson fan. They have no idea what to do, what to release, how to release things in 2023, they are stuck in 2004. Maddnening when you know what's out there and what should be in the vault vs. what they have released thus far. D&P SDE, really?... before a Symbol SDE, Parade SDE, or whatever was done for the next 3rdEyeGirl (e.g. The Sweeter She Is) album, Black Is The New Black, a live compilation SDE for Christ's sakes!

Exactly. You would only prioriotize D&P if you were an MJ stan looking to reclaim your 90s teenybopper roots.

no, D&P was chosen as they are thinking commercially.

they are looking at his best sellers.

i just hope that one day, all the 70s and 80s albums get the same treatment.

if dirty mind for instance doesnt get a proper, thorough deluxe release, it would make me angry.

but they will only release one big SDE a year if you think about how much work must go into compiling, mixing, mastering, then designing, etc etc. i cant imagine them speeding it up.

few people apart from die hards really care about black is the new black or more 3EG music (i mean, really, cmon).

right, erm, again:

"Best sellers" based on sales figures from over 30 years ago. Wtf would that be applicable to now?

Those sales figures were based on the teenyboppers of 1991 wanting the radio pop hit of the moment. It's some lofty pipe dreams to believe the same people who bought D&P for one or two pop hits in 1991 would return some 30+ years later to spend about 20x what they spent for the original album on a Super Deluxe boutique expanded edition.

It would be "logical" if this were, say, an SDE for Right Said Fred or perhaps Rick Astley.

This 100%, those who would fork over a few hundred for a D&P SDE, are 100% not the same folks who casually bought the album back in the early 90s becasue they loved Cream, D&P, or Gett Off.

Youre not wrong
But thats obv what they are looking at!
Its not what id release but its still a significant release in his catalogue.
I find 85% of the vault songs academically interesting but not really what id listen to much.
Its cool for background on this period but is there much better than the proper album? Id say no.

I don't know why ur all complaining cuz it's been known for at least two years that the next SDE was going to be D&P (or a combined SDE). It's pretty obvious by now that Prince's biggest albums will get an SDE treatment so it shouldn't come as a surprise this was the next SDE and I expect a Batman SDE in the next few years.

I'd say yes.

Every track he "gave away" during this era is superior to the material on D&P the album. Especially if we're going by the era / release proximity and not whatever they sifted out for inclusion on the box.

All superior material than D&P from the same recording dates:
1990- - The Big Pump
1990- - MPLS
1990-03-27 - Exploding All Over Europe
1990-06-xx - My Tender Heart
1990-06-xx - Hold Me
1990-11-xx - Get Blue
1990-11-xx - Well Done
1990-11-xx - And How
1990-12r91 - Skip 2 U My Darling
1990-12r91 - Open Book
1990-12-xx - Love... Thy Will Be Done
1990-12r91 - Martika's Kitchen
1990-12r91 - Don''t Say U Love Me
1990-12r91 - Spirit
1991-xx-xx - Take Me to Your Leader
1991-03-xx - Dance unto the Rhythm
1991-03-xx - Elephant Box
1991-03-xx - Slappy Dappy
1991-03-xx - Whispering Dandelions
1991-03-xx - Jadestone
1991-04-25 - I Hear Your Voice
1991-04-xx - Tip O My Tongue
1990-rly91 - Girl O My Dreams
1991-05-25 - The Voice
1991-06-xx - Hit U in the Socket
1991-07-10 - The Juice
1991-smfal - Standing at the Altar
1991-lt-92 - 5 Women [re-recording]

Fully agree. Spirit is such a throwaway airh ead of a song, actually it would fit perfectly in that non-fun Grafitti Bridge context with Aura on a cloud scene or something like that.

Even recorded in a totally differend sound, beat or stripped down piano version, it stays way too light, at least for me. The melody has little to offer, and the chorus even less. wink

"Diamonds and Pearls" is probably the worst, cheesiest, cringiest, most preening autopilot single of his entire career. That's the #2 song you come up with? Over "Insatiable" or "Money Don't Matter 2Night"?

Anyway I said "superior to the material," not "superior to the best material". The best of this list is definitely better than the best of D&P, however. "Love... thy WIll Be Done", "I Hear Your Voice", "My Tender Heart" alone...
