D & P SDE Live Show Blu Ray Opinions For those that have actually watched the show any thoughts? I'm completely blown away! The picture quality looked very good on my home theater set up but I was particularly impressed with the atmos sound quality. I have a 7.1.4 Atmos setup and I would have to say this disc gave it a good work out, whoever mastered it for Atmos did a good job.
The performance itself was fantastic, Prince seemed to be having a great time. This was a welcome change up from the Revolution era. Rosie sounded absolutely fantastic. The show on Blu Ray added MAJOR points to this release for me. It's a must own/see.

I haven't received the set yet so I have not been able to play the BLu Ray on my own ATMOS set up (5.1.2) but someone sent me the digital copy and I did watch. I won't say much about the pic quality yet b/c i want to opinonate once I see the blu ray itself. Similarly, can't say for ATMOS yet.
The edit job looks quite excellent. Prince's own editing was often bad. So, having professionals do the work has been super and this is a great example. He is absolutely on fire, seems super happy and all of that seems to have been caught on film. The interplay and camaraderie between Rosie and Prince seems genuinely wonderful. When she takes over NC2U, i know it was likely scripted but, it was just so nice. His reaction was so friendly. Her smiles to him were so warm.
ONe thing I also loved was when she sat at his piano while he sang Insatiable. It was so nice to see Rosie play. Her screaming throughout Victor was absolutely exhilirating to the level Prince usually takes us. with this much talent, it seems so wrong that she was not more celebrated in her professional life.
This is the best live release since his passing. They must keep it up and to think what else is in the vault ....amazing.

Your assesment is spot on! When he started dancing on the bar I tried to do the same (until my old knees said fuck that)! I can't imagine the other quality shows just waiting to come out.

This live video pushes this release up to the top of my favourite Prince releases ever, on par with Lovesexy Live in Dortmund. The energy and musicianship of this band is crazy. As is the funk. We can only hope for more of this kind of club shows to be released!

I was fortunate enough to be at the show and I'm so glad to finally relive it, over and over. Also thrilled that a lot of people seem to love it as well. Also love seeing the inside of Glam Slam again after all these years, i.e. the columns with P's face on it, the huge symbol above the stage, the back hallway up to the VIP 2nd level (with all the graffiti), the store in the corner. Amazing! So glad to have this! TRUE BLUE

I heard that the cops showed up, was it true ?

I watched this on the weekend - as far as I'm concerned the blu-ray is the highlight of the entire set. It's such a joyous performance.

Someone on Facebook noted that the menu reads Gram Slam, not Glam Slam. Anyone else see that? Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Probably not for me. . I watched it twice last night. Going from smiling, bobbing my head to tearing up. To see him up close in this quality in a club is something else. . His facial expressions, joking round, goofy dancing on the bar had me cracking up. . I've listened to him and Rosie sing NC2U a million times but seeing the video is so joyful and touching. The way they look and smile at eachother, seemed so genuine and sincere. . How happy he looked up there surrounded by the band, the horns, the Steeles, in his own club directing it all with high energy. I'm really happy this got a release

I have a 7.1.2 ATMOS configuration, and I was blown away. I felt like I was in the middle of the Glam Slam! The sound is precise, detailed and deep. I haven't tested the Dolby TrueHD version yet.
And the man who mixed the audio tracks on the bluray was Chris James @chrisjamespro, who had already worked with Prince on HITNRUN:Phase 2. "You can skate around the issue if you like,

Fully agree! I was blown away by the bright colors, the image quality, the setlist, the happiness spread... This is the second box set in which a gig from Minneapolis is included: for PR 40, First Avenue 83' (at last !) ? I'm really satisfied about this release ! It was so good!
Honestly, my overall opinion of the SDE was that it is a bit disappointing. The remaster wasn't necessary. The atmos remaster is cool but it's basically a whole new remix not done by Prince, could have lived without it. The various edits and single versions, it's not a complete set and it feels like filler. The vault tracks are mostly kinda weak. I'd have liked more early demos of the D&P songs. The only thing I really appreciated in the set was the Glam Slam show - it's fantastic.
But the Glam Slam show was really excellent. I honestly think it deserved it's own BR DVD release at a more sensible price point, instead of being buried on a huge SDE set.

speak for yourself...remasters are always required. D&P may not have needed it as much as older albums, but, this is definitely an improvement...subtle.

By the way, why the hell "Diamonds And Pearls" was not included in the souncheck? No more space in the disc? "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search."

Yep, it was a very immersive experience. The crowd noise was at a perfect level and the mix made me feel as if I was 10 to 15 rows from the stage. Love it!

Even I, who is not a big fan of the D&P era nor the band, was blown away by the show. (I downloaded it, didn't buy the package, and i didn't hear the Dolby Atmos, so can't say anything about that.) It's amazing to see Prince having so so so so much energy! Undelievable! You never ever see him grasp for air... He flashes through the whole show like a young boy. He also gives a lot of room to his band members. As if he enjoyes the music they paly for him. The honrs and The Steeles on Sacrifice give goose bumps frm head to toe! Thàt version is... simply unfuckingbelievable and stunning! It is the highlight for me of this whole show! How much more funk and gospel can you press into a performance like that? Unbeliveable, from another world. I never liked Rosie's voice. I still don't, but i have to admid that the chemestry between the two of them live is there for sure. I forgot how great she looked and how energetic she was, going all the way in Prince's crazy danicng. (Though Rosie for me is a one-note screamer. Sorry for that. I'll never get use to it.) The boys danced like crazy, and Prince poppin' in here and there as if it was unrehearsed, doing the same movements without sweating is truly remarkable! Art some point in Sacrifice, Michael Bland makes a drum roll, and even Prince looked at him like "dude, wow! where did you get thàt from!". The dancing on the bar was daring, acrobatic and fun! Amazing how he can do all this. I love it when Prince (without any care) was dressing himself, and getting his tie all done. He took his time, couldn't care less, and even made a show out of it in his own style. The guy has sooooooo much swag in everything he does. Truly unique as a perormer. I also loved the one-colour costume outfit changes. And how he can dance in them so wild and unconcerned. Nice! We didn't get a lot to see of Sonny-T (and Michael Bland). Though Sonny's bass throughout the whole set is so goddamn tight and prominent. He pumped the whole show full of funk and great beats with his mate Michael Bland. Now I finally understand the (super) power of this duo live (for the first time). The editing of the whole show is amazing too. With surprise footage, and not only focused on Prince. I give this show (not for the quality or sound) an 9 out of 10, and indeed is a must see for even non prince fans. Michael Jackson fans? Eat your hearts out. I also enjoyed the rehearsal video of the Special Olympics. The rest I will see tonight. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Trivial Pursuit...i agree with you about people getting having opinions w/o hearing it. In fact, I upgraded to ATMOS (installed the ceiling speakers) all for this release. Of course, I love movies but it took a Prince album mixed for ATMOS to get me to finally do the upgrade.
My set has not been delivered and the blu ray audio of the album is delayed...so I have no opiion on that sound results but....
I feel, he would not have appreciated this mix of his album. It is been described to be so widly different from the 2 channel mix, I am not sure he'd be onboard despite him being into technology and an early adopter often. He loved to bury his playing in the mix. There are endless examples. To reveal the playing (as I've heard described), I see it being an issue for him.
Having said all this, he is not here to stop it and I certainly don't think this is as bad as a Kanye West remix of Cream....

Trivial P,
Your exactly on point! To criticise this Atmos mix without hearing it is laughable. The technology (when correctly applied) allows the listener to recreate the experience of being there. A properly calibrated Atmos listening experience is astonishing, I do get the feeling people that haven't had one need to maybe seek out a friend or theater that offers the experience. I've had over a dozen friends and family add Atmos height channels after visiting my sound room.
Trust me, it's cool. | |

Is it me or do you think Prince could possibly run a marathon? The guy barely sweats during Jughead.

I'd almost forgotten how high-energy his performances were in those days! The leaps off the piano were incredible. That's one thing about that era and the tour, he played less rhythm guitar and left more of the guitar parts to Levi, but it freed him up to be more of a performer, dancer etc. I really thought Rosie added so much to the show as well. Made me wish for more Rosie stuff.

Last night I watched the Blu-Ray in part. I watched the Glam Slam show, the Special Olympics and the Special Olympics soundcheck.
I agree with everyone the quality of this is absolutely amazing.
However I did notice some things concerning the audio quality. The mix of prince's voice seems off. This is especially noticable in Diamonds and Pearls performance. It sound like the pitch is altered slighty. It sounds like he is signing in the wrong key or something.
Also during the Special Olympics soundcheck sound and video are out of sync. This is especially noticable during the close up of Rosie during her rap.
Finally I think that the keyboards are mixed to low (when I compare it to how it original sounded).
Anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

Love it but I have a question for those familiar with the disc, the sound and especially the ATMOS track. In Sacrifice of Victor, when Prince says “Deacon’ and Levi responds “hold it preacher”…on the ATMOS track on blu ray I hear Prince clearly but not Levi. Prince comes from the centre channel but Levi is coming from somewhere else but much less clearly. Is this what you all hear or is my ATMOS set up in need of some tweaking
