Slaughterhouse album! Last time I head this album I wasn't really sold on it but upon listening right now I'm pretty surprised at how good this record is so far. By the time I've gotten to Golden Parachute I'm thinking this could be some of his best work. This seems to be the thing with Prince more than most artists due to the sheer amount of work, and the admittedly mid tempo heavy work he released from 96 and onward - the aspects that are stellar are simply not the same as his prior work - and approaching them in the same way just doesn't work. As a result I've had like 5/6 points where I've thought "man from 1990 it just doesn't work - except for Come". Then "wow White Mansion is really good". "Damn I didn't realize how much of Rave is straight up beautiful!" Etc etc. After sort of breaking through repeatedly I have to remind myself to check the work that didn't connect with me prior because over time pretty much all of his work I've had some sort of about-face on. And that is typically when I come back to the org to talk to you all haha

Also - Peace is one of the all time best P songs. Did NOT expect a track that killer.

Yes, much like Chocolat Invasion, another great set of tracks, the horns on Y Should Eye Do That When Eye Can Do This, is amazing.

i agree. "Y Should Eye Do That When Eye Can Do This" is so good. I love the drumcomputer.

Doubtless a lot of highlights in this era, but he started to get a tad lazy with the drum programming (on some tracks) and the chorus and lyrics can be sub-par (for Prince) on a lot of the stuff - Still a very interesting period in his recording career.

The Slaughterhouse was Prince's best album in the 2000s until AOA came out
Hynoparadise Silicon Y Should Eye Do That Golden Parachute Northside Props & Pounds Peace S&M Groove All good to great stuff [Edited 11/13/23 5:51am]

If I had to pick I'd go with Chocolate Invasion as it makes for a better listen. Slaughterhouse kinda bored me - that being said I do think the production on both is lacking

How did I not get it last time when I started to listen to it? Incredible album. Peace, Golden Parachute, and Y Should Eye Do That alone are so good its crazy. Gonna listen to it again tomorrow on a long drive and really looking forward to it.

I really wish that Sony would release CD or vinyl versions of the NPG music club releases; surely this would interest a lot of collecters

Starts off brilliantly, but the mellow and repetitive stretch of Golden Pair O' Shoes and Hypnoparadise, followed by the non-song Props 'n Pounds, really kill the album's momentum for me ...

If they ever do an LP set of Rave In2/Un2 I'd lose my sh*t though as that would be the one I'd really want on LP.

Damn time to snag those up asap.

"Hypnoparadise" is creme de la creme tippy top-shelf Prince. Easily the most slept-on song that deserves to be name-dropped as a classic more.
