Chocolate Invasion!

I listened to The Chocolate Invasion today and damn this is such a slept on album!

Before it was widely available on all streaming services, around the time I joined the org actually, I ended up buying the FLAC files for this album on Tidal and was so happy with it. Shortly afterward I did the same for The Slaughterhouse and Rave In2 and especially for In2 I was so floored by the sound quality.

Anyway I love this record! Anyone else here with a strong opinion about THE CHOCOLATE INVASION?

I'm also thankful for the Tidal FLAC files, but to me the superior tracklist is the original release with the original version of "The Dance". That one is a damn good album.

Always liked this one--and his NPGMC stuff period. This and The Slaughterhouse flow much better after Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic since the tracks are 2000-2001ish. Putting these on after Musicology in 2004 is sort of jarring, it's like when people advocate sequencingThe Black Album before Come.

I love Chocolate Invasion. its funny seeing this topic because me and my wife were listening to it in the car. about 20 minutes ago. i wondered to her if anyone besides myself had made cd inserts for the npgmc releases like this album . I prefer it to The Slaughterhouse album because for one, I thought The SlaughterHouse was a terrible name. I like almost all of the songs on Chocolate Invasion , High, The Dance, Vavoom, Supercute, Underneath The Cream, etc. Prince's vocals on U Make My Sunshine with Angie Stone are superb. Chocolate Invasion. To me Slaughterhouse and Chocolate Invasion feel like one album split down the middle and the more mainstream-like, conventional grooves ended up on Chocolate Invasion.

It's funny because I view it as a stronger album than Musicology, although the Peaks of that record (Dr Mr Man) are incredibly good.

What a strange discography Prince has - his comeback album in 2004 is one of TWO albums that year, one of which has remained in relative obscurity despite being just as solid as the record that brought him back to public awareness.

Oh man to sequence TBA and Come together is a bit weird. People associate them for sure due to their darkness but texturally they're so different. Crazy what 6-7 years can do.

Fantastic album, have been listening to Vavoom for years, eaisly one of his most fun tracks slept on by a lot of people, definitely the general public and MSM. U Make My Sun Shine is such a great soulful duet with Angie Stone, just fantastic. My Medallion, fun and funky, and the second half of Judas Smile is perhaps the funkiest I think Prince ever got on a studio track, imo.

It's patchy AF. A couple great tracks - When Eye Lay My Hands, U Make My Sunshine. The rest is mid to bad. High is a career low point.

I have always loved the titles for both of these albums. The Slaughterhouse edges these two albums for me in (in name and content). It has a sort of deadly raggededness about it. And yet, the two best songs from these two albums, When Eye Lay My Hands on U and U Make My Sun Shine at Night belong to The Chocolate Invasion.

The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse both deserve a physical release.
There may or may not be something coming!

The names yes but the songs are just raggedy. lol Prince knew these weren't worthy of a physical release. When Eye Lay My Hands on U and U Make My Sun shine are the only redeemable songs.

This song sums it up for me:

Still Waiting (4 The) Cho...e Invasion

By the way, Judas Smile is one of my favourite tracks!
