Tip O My Tongue / In The Mood riff?

So, did our musical hero borrow a riff from wartime composer Glen Miller? That horn riff sounds awfully familiar, what do you lot think? 🤔 😎✌️🎸

Of course he did...and it wouldnt be the first time or last time he's done that...that particular riff is too specific for it to have been coincidental

He was playing In The Mood live around that time - so he's making it clear he paid homage to Glenn Miller.

To be fair, it fits in well! I remember he played it in the old Sacrifice of Victor live VHS. Nice respectful nod 😎✌️🎸

I honestly don't think so. It's just a few notes, and it's a pretty passing similarly imho

It's quite clearly a direct reference to In the Mood

People can disagree right?

I'm a musician, I hear the similarity but I don't think it has to be reference. It's pretty fleeting.

Definitely using In the Mood. Same notes AND rhythm. Reminds me of his use of Well U Needn’t in the extended Billy Jack Bitch. I love when he quotes and funks up the classics.

Definitivey the first 2 seconds of 'In The Mood' are used. Good find! Prince had something with Big Bands. Just recently watched Montreux 2013, a.o courting time. That has a clear Glen Miller influence.

Was racking my head where i had heard this song before - it's on the underrated Debarge album In The Storm!

I'm sure i am last to the party in realising this.

You're a musician and you don't hear it? Damn, Hellen Keller could have recognised this one!

I thnk it was intentional.

Referential.

I believe it was an intentional sample.

Btw, I am a diehard Prince fan, but those drums are very thin and plastic. Didnt listen to the outtakes yet, but I hope it´s more of an exception
