I remember Matt Fink saying once that Prince loved to joke around and play around with those guys. I think Bobby or W&L said the same about the addition of Wally, Brooks, and Jerome to the Revolution.

Prince needed a comic foil sometimes, and it sure wasn't going to be the doctor or anyone else stuck behind an instrument.

In Mayte's book, she talks about how Prince would give a reward to band members who did something "interesting" on stage.
IIRC, he'd pay then $5,000.
So that's why Mayte stage-dived (and wasn't caught, the first time). I'm sure this is part of that challenge.
We need to see more!
