I thought you said it was better?

I edited Tony out of about 98% of that album (and the prince album). So... you wanna talk "Tony-light," throw down.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

One day tony verses will be retrospectively added to more 90s vault songs due to popular demand

Honestly, hearing Prince rap all over the vault tracks, I think I prefer Tony.

Agreed. Tony isn’t great, but he’s a better rapper than Prince was.

I'm curious how you edited those tracks, because I did the same.

Someone sent me their edits once and they literally took out all those bars. So things like "The Max" was really jumbled and frankly, just stupid. It made no sense. It was like a skipping record.

For me, on songs he had a straight 16 bars or something, I cut around that. I had to find where the song would've naturally continued before and after (which sometimes was another 4 measures or something). So I did that on stuff like "Live 4 Love," "Daddy Pop," "Willing and Able" (more on that below),

On something like "Gett Off," I took the instrumental parts from the intro and dubbed them over his parts in the chorus. I also created a natural break when the song breaks and he says "if you want to baby here I am..." then Rosie is back with "....come on...." It's quite natural. I'm more proud of that edit.

I wasn't able to take out his adlibs in "Push," but I can deal with those "push upon it" bits.

"Willing and Able" was the tricker one, and it's okay. But I think I now realize how I can redo it so it's much better, especially having heard that early version without him at all.

The edits on prince were similar. The raps on MNIP and SexyMF were natural to take out. You could hear how the song was supposed to sound before his raps. I did the "Gett Off" type overdub thing with "The Max" so he's simply not on the chorus, it's just instrumentation. He's still in "The Sacrifice of Victor" with the adlibs, but his other rap is out I think. (It's been a minute since I did all that.)

I used my vinyl rips for a lot of these edits to have a warmer feel on them. But I plan to go back and reedit at least "Willing and Able" and a couple others with the remaster.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Ah, interesting. You really put in the work. I only cut him out of Daddy Pop, Willing & Able and Live 4 Love, but then (hot take) I actually like most of his raps. Just did it for the fun of it.

Pretty happy with my edit of Willing and Able even though it does cut out a good chunk of the ending. It was the hardest one for sure. I can send you an org note about it if you like.

Forgot I did also do an edit to remove the awful rap section in Love 2 the 9s, and it saves what is otherwise one of his best songs. Of all the raps to edit out, this is the one!

I've done the same. Love 2 the 9s is my favorite song on the album and I think it's a masterpiece, other than the godawful middle section. It's not just Tony's rapping I loath -- I also don't like the production with the cheesy record scratching.

I actually made a couple different edits. One of them removed almost all of the middle section, including the Prince parts. The second one was a more modest edit to remove only the part where Tony quizzes Mayte.

Lol..The corny quiz almost ruins a MASTERPIECE

"Fine Fine, What sign U are?"
"Whats your favorite car?"
"How many kids U Got?"
"How Many Books U read?"
"Who's the president now?"
"Then howww, U gonna make that booty boom?"

disbelief

lololol

that song takes some weird turns. i know its meant to show off the npg, how they can switch gears so fast, but by the time it gets to the mayte/tony bit, it just loses me.

Hahaha your cut of these records is still coming up huh? That has to make you feel ahead of the curve I bet.

Every few years I come back on while on a binge and it's good to see you're still active. Hope you're well.

I wasn't ahead of anything. I only did the edits in the last 10 or 12 years I would imagine? When I digitized my whole vinyl library, I worked on those edits in between. So maybe a tad more than 10 years. Still pleased with them, but I'm going to redo them using the SDE remasters (I used vinyl for some before). I also plan to re-edit "Willing and Able." I was never happy with it, but since the Tony-less version of that is out there as a bootleg, I can fashion my own after that quite easily.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I lean slightly towards 7 as the best, but it's close between that and Love 2 the 9s. One of his best choruses. It should be awkward but he made it work.

I experimented with a few different edits but settled on cutting from the end of the 2nd chorus to the "Would you? (could you?) Would you love me 2 the 9s" part. It flows great and gives a decent length middle section with all the worst bits gone.
