Something Funky 'In' This house Comes With the release of the so called 'Band version' on the D&P SDE, I was shocked to hear that Rosie was not on it (even though Prince name checks her, and fills in the vox for her - I guess he was planning to add her later) I checked out the version we all know and love and I noticed Rosie wasn't on that verison either! Sounds like Elisa Fiorilla (?) fills in for Rosie - Now I'm sure I've heard Rosie sings on this? Maybe a live or rehearsal version? Or was I just imagining it? Surely there must be a verison in the vault with Rosie on it they could have used - this SDE version seems like a remix, Prince even says 'Dance to the remix single' !!! So they released an unfinshed remix instead of the original verison (which I'm guessing there is a Rosie added mix). Rant over. Although I do kinda like this new version [Edited 10/30/23 14:37pm]

I know but don't love the shorter version. I don't love this new one either.

You're probably thinking of her from live versions

Rosie sings on it during the Rock in Rio performance. [Edited 10/30/23 22:30pm]

the short version with elisa is such a great fun track, I listen to that all the time

First listen was jarring to have Rosie introduced and not appear but I love this 'band version.' . The drums, the groove, Sonny's solo and the chants are all pure funk to me. This version would've been a great opener for D&P back then to introduce the new band.

Agree 100% "You can skate around the issue if you like,

I thought this was 'just a jam' when we had it as a boot. Now, I love it...everytime I listen, I listen all the way through. So fun and funky. So damn ...LIVE!

I thought it was Rosie on the boot version shouting "Something fuuuunky this house comes". No way is that Elisa? One Iam on about starts with the phone bleeps LOL

Oh Jesus. 3 versions LOL....I like the track but its not worthy of an album track....live opener woulda been cool though

Does seem strange that Rosie is missing on this track… Surely there must be a studio version with her!? . Maybe the Estate just preferred the “Band only” version!?

From Duane's notes on the D&P SDE vault tracks, apparently "Something Funky" was a new take recorded on 31 January 1991 whereas Princevault gives it as 14 November 1990... confusing, right? Nonetheless, this funky version is far superior to the 4-minute version.

Who is it on the D&P Beginnings, boot? Hadn't listened to that in a while but always assumed Rosie. Listening again now that it's been mentioned, yeah, it doesn't sound like her. The orger formerly known as https://prince.org/profil...nglishGent

there are two versions of the short take circulating. one with elisa and one with rosie (and possibly elisa on bg?)
Exactly. There are 4 versions around as far as I know:
1. the released B-side version 2. the recently released long band version 3. unreleased #1 with Levi in band introduction including Elisa as placeholder for Rosie 4. unreleased #2 with Levi in band introduction including Rosie
This version 4 has this very prominent "radio" intro and outtro but I cannot find out what it is. Can somebody help me out? Even princevault doesn't mention it.

Sorry for the confusion. This comes when you have been a fan for ages and you are getting old and starting to mix things up. Of course Horny Pony was the B-side of Gett Off. Something Funky This House Comes has never been officially released before.
So there are THREE known versions amongst collectors:
1. the recently released long band version 2. unreleased #1 with Levi in band introduction including Elisa as placeholder for Rosie 3. unreleased #2 with Levi in band introduction including Rosie
Again, sorry for the confusion.
