Common: Electric Circus

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but I read that Prince had contributed something to the song "Star 69" from this album. What did he do, and is it official (is his name in the album credits?), or is it just a rumor like the Bootsy Collins thing a few months ago?

If it is official, my my! do I feel a little embarressed! I can't believe I missed it the first time round!!

The Bootsy Collins player was a guy called "One". Prince seems mainly to of been featured on the last thirty seconds of Star*69.

The photo of P and Com in the studio is linked to from Okayplayer on numerous threads and now duplicated at NPGMC also.

A couple weeks ago I saw Common live with Talib Kweli here in Rochester. Tight ass show. Common is a true entertainer. He breakdanced, had a spotlight for his DJ's spinning records, and in general just created such a positive mood for the night. He made a point several times of commenting on the multi-racial crowd and expressing how we were all one. Much love for Common!!!

A little off the topic but what the hell...

i got the album.
havent played it in a few weeks tho.

... P's name is credited for guitar & keys.
however i dont hear a guitar on there.

P mainly contributes i think on the end of the track where there is a funky sott/bl;ack album-esque beat going on.
linn drum sound, think of the beats in songs like Erotic City,Hott Thing...& u got the right idea.

i sometimes skip the track just 2 get 2 that cos its funky as hell.

overall it is a great album.
should pick it up.

Prince didn't contribute to the last 30 seconds of the track. That was all ?uestlove and James Poyser. Prince's guitar part was buried so low in the mix that its not even audible. It's really a wonder to me why his name is in the credits.

Exactly. You can't even hear Prince's keyboard or guitar parts. I personally don't even think it made the final cut. The album, itself sucks.

Disagreed. It's different, but worthwhile. It's no "Resurrection," but at least the brother is tryin' to be original.

I hear ya. I was surprised, to say the least, when I first heard the LP myself. I'm just glad he's trying something new.
