"Daddy Pop (12" Mix").

This is like a parody Prince release. When does "Jughead (15 Minutes Mo' Stoopid)" drop?

The Estate destroying fans' enthusiasm for The Vault in one fell swoop. The full set hasn't even be released yet and the fans have had enough!

Where my conspiracy theorists at? Is this merely the latest tactic in lowering the value of his overall catalogue? I swear there's org threads from years back where we joked around about this kind of release... New Power Soul SDE would've been like SOTT SDE pt. 2 compared to this.

The problem is that this era is overwhelmed with poor material. There are still some great songs on this release, but for the most part, it's bloated with a lot of mediocre stuff.

Having said that, I genuinly enjoy this version of Daddy Pop. I do with the Estate had released the 12" mix of Willing and Able though.

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

i dont actually need a longer vesion of daddy pop. and i like that song as far as D&P goes. id prefer a rawer, stripped back version. i know everyone seems to love the live glam slam set, but its got a lot of why i dont care thaaaat much for this era even though it has nostalgia appeal. a lot of what he was doing was really maximal and the horn arrangements got less interesting and i felt like the horns are now there almost just for the sake of it.

basically.

this release makes me want them to dump SDEs now and just issue outtakes compilations/box sets.

i really dont need half of this stuff again.

things have got to change remastered? WTF for?

i dont LOVE alice in the looking glass but ill take rough demos over not that memorable/different alternate or extended versions.

yes. And one need not be Nostradamus to predict that would have been the case with a Diamonds & Pearls deluxe set of all things.

By and large the choice highlights of this pre-hype have been the "Originals" of material he already gave away, which while good material, he already gave those songs away and they've been out for literal decades. Those do not warrant props. Prince already felt them good enough for release in the 90s, so they were already released in the 90s.

Pure genuine unreleased Vault exclusives-wise... uh yeah.

I'm sure that if Darkside was recorded in 1986 and part of the SOTT SDE everyone who are now complaining would love it biggrin Same with some other outtakes. I think some people are just disappointed cuz Parade SDE aren't the next release and refuse to enjoy any of these vault tracks cuz it's not their favorite era.

Jesus Fuck, nayroo, funkbaby and others like them are literally the only thing that's keeping this thing we call the Org limping along...

Mostly it's just people like you who don't have any knowledge of his art or musical progression but instead just say weird shit like "throwin' down with a six string exclamation!" -- which, hey, cool, that's your thing and that's how you like to respond to his art. But don't be coming on here and blasting someone else who's been here for a long time and actually provides meaningful discussion.

If every drop of pre-released songs hasn't made you progressively less interested in this set then I'm legitimately happy for you. But also I can't relate. So many casuals will buy this and be like "these are the famous songs from the vault? One is a rehearsal of a rehearsal!

Pretty underwhelming.

That said, I've always loved Daddy Pop and although I was hoping this would be much more different than the album version, it's pretty good. Not great, and not good enough to release before the set to hype up demand, but hey, I'm not a stuffy old lawyer who was fired by Prince, so what do I know?

Lol...Nayroo seems like good people...and yes, i can also imagine him with the typhoon hairdoo, doing pushups by the pool, in a onesie bathing suit, with WhisperingDandelions next to him rapping Tony M. lyrics, as TrivialPursuit, wearing a yellow doorag, poses by a yellow BMW...

To be honest, for once I’ve delayed listening to all these pre-releases and the leaks of this SDE. Even tried to ignore most of the comments from y’all, good or bad. Instead looking forward to listening to the set as whole next week.

Plus enjoying hearing old and newer school orgers either hate, love or be be indifferent about this release.
There may or may not be something coming!

While there is perhaps some validity to this post, that validity is highly predicated on this being a little worse than "not their favorite era." It's literally bottom-tier Prince as far as eras go, to the extent I question what IF ANY demand there was from any significant continent of Prince fans to get this as the 3rd SDE.

Yeah, yeah, blah blah dated record sales. Look, Prince is a cult artist who put out more duds than chart sucesses. His cult has many, many, maaany favorites and D&P ain't one of them. These ain't SDE's for the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears. It might benefit the Estate to somewhat acknowledge what the cult actually wants (or in this specific instance, doesn't want).

If Londell and Spicer ever were Prince fans I can guarantee they're the same type of small % of Prince fans that get hype for D&P SDE because "it was the last Prince album I bought!," not finishing the sentiment with questioning why exactly that is if the album is so great allegedly.

And Parade is far from my favorite era either, but it would have had more exciting Vault material, no question.

And if it's consolation I like the D&P outtakes more than the album itself, but that's really barely a compliment as well.

Nah. SOTT SDE they were satisfied. People only complained about uber nerd MP3 sources, formatting, omissions and configs with that one.

With D&P SDE, before it's even come out, there's sentiment of people either being positively unenthused ("well I guess I just hoped there were more treasures buried in the Vault") to outright disdain over this set (yours truly).

The org is old-school so we wear our deep opinions on our sleeves a bit more than some of the other places trying to self-manifest some self help book new-age zen neo-positivity, or just plain gen-Z sawft.

Whatever circle of Prince fandom you observe, people are just not as hype for this as they were SOTT SDE. SOTT SDE we were salivating like a pack ravenous dogs over a single T-Bone. D&P SDE Prince web is like "yeah... it'..it's... okay............ . . . ."

You genuinely see no difference in fan reaction?

Nah, "Darkside" sounds really cool musically but the vocal instructions detract from it. I'd be happy to hear it in instrumental form because it sounds a lot more raw than "Blood On The Sheets" (or what I remember of it)
