I haven't watched that Reelz crap, but I do know that Baron has posted clips from it repeatedly since its release.

Also, the Mayte deal was just announced. You think they already made the movie and are about to release it?

Then again, you once claimed that Miko Weaver left before the Nude Tour. I guess you "didn't waste time" watching all those live videos from that tour.

Agreed. I actually enjoyed her book and thought it was very loving and respectful. And I thought the stories about their early encounters were kind of sweet. But he was in his 30s and she was a teen. And that note that was auctioned off, written to Mayte from Prince, about the Walk Don’t Walk video, where he says he has all of her belly dancing videos hidden in a private place and only he knows where they are - that kind of gave me the ick.

To be honest , I kind have distanced myself from Prince the last couple of years because of some of his dubious actions with her and probably worse, Anna Fantastic, sorry don’t know her proper name. I know both have said it wasn’t a seedy relationship. And they both were totally on board. However it still doesn’t look good on Prince .If the media gets proper hold of it. It could be poisonous for Princes legacy. I myself have struggled a bit with myself being a father of 2 daughters! As I have got older I can get over the brilliance of the man music wise. I still love the performer and the music.

I get fans not wanting it to come out because it might tarnish Prince's legacy in the public eye--and I do believe this is a legitimate concern with cancel culture and not even that but gen-Z morality and awareness of pop culture. It's basically old-school rock star cliche to indulge in scandalous age gaps--justifiably it is looked at differently now, but those other aged rock icons also got more clout with the gens due to playlist "hits" and get an unspoken reprieve. Most of even millennial-to-gen-Z know Prince only as the "Purple Rain" guy, and then they can add this... It could very well become his legacy.

On the flip, it is what it is. Fans can't want more Prince coverage in the media and then get flippant when it actually covers real areas of his personal life, that's how these things go, and these are decisions he made and were out there publically anyway.

Personally, this is why I've always been against the Netflix doc or wanting a doc series or a movie. Not because I'm against exposing him to new people, because as this thread highlights there are very real concerns of doing so in doc/biog form. Plus, art wise, with how the Estate has gone so far, it'll be 65% '1999' and 'Purple Rain', 35% 'Diamonds and Pearls' and however they divide the rest between the other 38 albums, drugs/scandals/Mayte/Anna Fantastic/going off on bandmembers Jordan 'Last Dance' style.

'Cause worst case scenario he gets cancelled and can't get distribution for more Vault/SDEs...

That being said, I felt Mayte's book was as "tasteful" a depiction of their relationship as you're possibly gonna ever get out of this subject...

As long as this film includes the moment in '93 when Prince simulated phallus in hole action between songs at the bagley warehouse gig, I'll be happy. Bonus if me and Mike are included as highlights #nosmokingincident

I saw sofia Coppola's film Priscilla on elvis and priscilla who he met while she was in school
I doubt this mayte movie will be any different to that uh courtship
Lets hope its a good movie and well made if nothing else

I mean Prince was seeing Carmen Electra when he met Mayte, and Mayte is pretty clear in the book that nothing happened. They'd have to flat out change her story to imply something did. It's possible they could for some shock value, but then I'd expect to see Mayte speak against them.

The production company is pretty small time though. It's going to be a made for TV movie. They're not going to be able to use any of his music, no actual footage, no big names attached.

I don't know what Netflix/The estate are doing with regards to the documentary, but they need to sort it out and make something happen. While I don't think Mayte's movie will be huge, it'll be enough to inspire several unofficial documentaries.To the point that the official doc just won't matter to anyone other than the hardcore fans.

In the meantime, Prince changed and became someone else. Why hold these actions against him forever ? I don't think it's fair at all.

Clips have been circulating since forever. I haven't watched the entire thing either but at least I am aware of where they came from, aren't you the same one who hadn't seen the Miko fight until recently ? Tsk tsk tsk.

And why would I know about the Miko right? The audio of that rehearsal, which I love a lot, didn't have that in it. So - again, why would I know?

If they're gonna tell his story (moreso with the Netflix doc than Mayte's story) they should tell everything- warts and all. Spin it anyway you want but his relationships with Mayte and Anna Fantastic were "seedy" to say the least and I suspect it's just the tip of the iceberg. On the flip side of the same coin if they're gonna dish on the dirt they need to include all of the good, philanthropic things he did. I don't want to see them hero-worship Prince anymore than I want to see them demonize him. Just an honest, complete as possible portrait of the man and a celebration of his music and stage artistry.

The production company mentioned is not a serious Hollywood player. In fact, they’re based in Atlanta and primarily do trashy reality TV. If this ends up being a feature film it’ll be relegated to the figurative bargain bin. No one will see it so it doesn’t really matter what they do.

The Estate couldn’t block the making of this movie even if they wanted. Prince is a public figure so he’s fair legal game. They can and would likely prevent any of his music from being used but that’s all they can do. But the reality is this will likely never actually get made anyway. Hundreds of film projects get put into development each year and only a small fraction ever get produced and many of those don’t even ever get released. If this gets made I bet it’s done so as a cable TV movie for BET if anything.
