See, seeee!!!

It IS Rosie on the "Gett Off" intro lol

i know that since 1991.

Don't understand why most people think this is Prince...

It's clearly not his signature fantastic scream.

Actually a pitty he didn't do it himself.

No, it's cuz there was a huge discussion on this Org about who really done it!

There were actual soundbites anylized, slowed down, sped up, timbred and judged.

Then, on the old Housequake site, Michael B showed up for a few days taking questions and interacting with the members.

When someone asked him who did the intro, he replied that it was Rosie, as far as he remembered lol

Anywho, i'm glad the case is closed! (unless???)

It was cool hearing Andrea interview Cari, but she wasn't too pleased about Prince lying about their encounter in "Schoolyard". She said she was pretty upset confused

I thought Andrea was going to push it and ask about the glove line!

Crazy that Cari actually exists!!
She denied the drugs ever happened. Don’t think they discussed the underage sex at all!? (Maybe I need to listen again!?).

I have to admit, I've hesitated listening to this because it was going to center around the Game Boyz, arguably the most argued-about and divisive element to Prince's music until The Rainbow Children.

However, the history of the north side of Minneapolis really spelled out to some extent here was fascinating. So many people knew Sonny Thompson; and that his band was first named The Family! I had totally forgot about that. Then that snip of them playing with Prince on guitar and backing vocals - that's just heaven.

Their group name - 2 B R👅de is as corny as they were.

I still despise that fact that Prince put rap into his music. He had a really good thing going with recording a live band again, instead of the all-around one-man show he had gotten into deep again after an album like Lovesexy. I found it hysterical that Tony M. was sweating how the rap community was going to deal with him versus the Prince fanbase. Dude - you barely had fans on either side. Have a seat or three.

As far as the Cari part, I do believe Prince embellished or fictionalized a situation for the sake of more provocative lyrics. Even she has to see that, and not that Prince was being 100% autobiographical. I was sort of waiting for Andrea to present that option to Cari, opposed to just in a voiceover.

In general, it's still fun to hear all these stories. I was at a bad point in my life in 1991, so my attention on Diamonds and Pearls was rather stunted. I knew "Gett Off," but nothing else was pulling me toward it. prince ended up being a bigger record for me. So it has taken me years to really get back to this album. I often just dismissed it. It is an uneven record, a lot of ideas in an 65 minutes. prince is heavier in production, bigger bottom, leans much more into R&B and hip-hop sensibilities. Once I took Tony M. out of the songs, and just sat and listened to it and gave it another fair shot (about a decade ago), I started to love it again.

I'd much rather have Parade SDE right now, but the podcast and the vault tracks are once again warming me back to all things D&P.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

This part was funny. Like he thought he had ppl to betray. Who knows, maybe his circle were aggressively anti prince. Idk. But he sounded like he was big daddy kane debating whether to pose with madonna or something lol

I listened to the pod and what I got from it is that Toni said he was a dancer and he would
sometimes write raps and dabble a bit in rapping/performing but he never said he was any
kind of great genius rapper.

I think he was a bit nervous about both prince's fans and rap music fans because he felt
like he wasn't a amazing rapper plus prince fans were probably not going to like rap in his
music at all to begin with.

Never got the impression that Toni thought he was all that.

Perhaps when he joked about how he told Prince to leave the rapping to him lol Yeah,
that was a bit oh wow. Than again, prince's rapping isn't great either, although personally
I love it and see nothing wrong with it, it's just his own way of doing it. But a lot of folks
on this site seem to disagree lol

utlimately tony isnt on every song.

enough to be like, uhh why is this happening, but hes not on EVERYTHING.

i actually like tony on background vocals, like on gett off. he works and sounds great then.

as a kind of compere on the live show though, hes no danny ray (to princes james brown). just not charming really, hes too much of a shouter

i dont mind princes own rapping like on player, which is more like ll cool j (cant think of a better comparison right now), but i guess he wanted someone less 'soft' like tony (in fairness, tony could do softer rapping like on willing and able, but thats not what he did for the most part)

the new rosie episode is a nice one to listen to. i forgot until listening to the album recently how much she is featured on there. and she is more or less a part of nearly all the best songs. shame that in the discussion of the album, tony m and the hip hop element overshadows rosies input. kudos to the podcast team for finding new ways to talk about this album.

That was a little painful to listen to. I certainly hope Andrea didnt play the glove part. In Prince's defence, he never released this and perhaps respect for Carrie was the reason. Hoping that Andrea cleared that up for her.

I just remember a MTV report from Europe, while they were on the D&P tour, and the reporter asked Tony what it was like to play with Prince. His response, "You should ask him what it's like to play with us." rolleyes
