I have the similar story.

I was in Barcelona in 1991, when it was annouced to be released a few weeks earlier.

I remember being in a record store where they had two copies.

Expensive! I asked to see and touch it, but couldn't afford it at the time.

It was a very excited moment, because the evening before,

I heard it being played for the first time on some midnight radio station.

I was blown away by the funk power of this song.

And was expecting a lot of the album...

I recall an article in a UK magazine (was it called ‘Sky’, but not related to the TV broadcaster?) where they pitched this as a mighty comeback from the disgrace of GB — a new sound for a new generation. Nah, back then it was reported that there were 1505.
1500 with the white cover and purple drawing and 5 testpressings with the white cover and black drawing on it. Pirate copies were showing up pretty fast after the release (with black drawing like the testpressings but double A sides instead of a blank b-sde)

Should be very easy to get, 7,000 sounds like a small amount but its not for a RSD release by any means, most releases usually average 1500-3000 unless you are U2 or Taylor Swift or Madonna but none of those 3 have a black friday release, but then again TS has a release on 10/27.

There were thousands more than 1500 on the market in the early 2000s. Supposedly from the stock held at PP. Ever noticed that 99% of collectors have a 'sealed' version, yet the ones that can show the orginal shipping sleeve, show a dog eared version. Those are the originals. I bought 5 sealed copies at £30 each in 2002. Ebay was full of them.

back in the early 90s there was a article on it in a record collector mag and they said it was 1500 and 5 TP's.
Because this was a pressing Prince himselve ordered it was probably more then. A bit like all those withdrawn High singles that are still in boxes at paisley Park but are selling at $2000 a piece whenever one of them shows up on eBay.

I emailed Paisley Park about 3 years ago to see if they had any copies left. All gone.
