Always preferred Crucial, but Adore is still so strong and a peak Prince ballad. "This condition I got is crucial, crucial baby... you could burn up my clothes, smash up my ride, well maybe not the ride".

I'm not a lyric OR extendo Prince person, but "Adore" is just about perfect in every facet.

It's why "Crucial" will always be a close-but-no-ceegar type situation (the superior sax version anyway). "Adore" lays it on thick with the lyrics, but they seem completely earnest and well-articulated. "Crucial", by contrast, is very rough around the edges with delivery of the sentiment. Like a clunky first draft of the true pure romance best elucidated by "Adore".

"Adore" just builds better than all his other slow jams, too. The other ones essentially peak by the first or second hook. "Adore" adds something with every section and progression.

When I got the album back in 87 I wasn't a huge fan of this one either. I think I left it off of the cassette I made for the car/walkman. But it really grew on me over the years. Now its one of highlights of his entire catalog and the perfect ending to a perfect album.

It´s one of my fave ballads. It has a great trumpet and some cool organ. The ending is great too.

Well don't get me started on "Slow Love"... I just LOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEE that song.

I love the whole side of that album. My favourite side of that album.

The song "It" too, a song also heavily disliked here, and is one of my old time favourite Prince tunes.

Crucial to me is more of a pop song, and not a real slow love song.

I believe criminal charges should be brought against the spewer of such a insane opinion. Adore is a classic. It's absolutely sublime. A baby maker...a panty melter...a slow jam of resplendent replay value.

Nah player ...you ARE the weakest link. biggrin

Never liked it. The whole vibe, it just doesn't work for me. I say the same of SOTT as an album experience too. Half of it feels dull or annoying.

I like it now but I didn't really care for it upon initial release. It took a while to grow on me.

.

Now 'beautiful night' is the only really weak spot on Sign.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Please all look once more in that mirror Prince heart.

What my eyes read here is hurting my purple brain.

I take notes of what you lot don't like about the SOTT album,

and don't ever reply to you again about this subject. biggrin)))))

LOL

Can someone ban me from this thread?

If I were to stick the album on now, I'd most likely skip these songs

Housequake

Slow Love

Hot Thing

If I Was Your Girlfriend

Strange Relationship

I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man

It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night

Adore

One I might remove is "slow love" as he pretty much stole it. He did not do much to it and he pressured Carole Davis to let him have it. (he did the pretty much the same with "Soul Sanctuary")

I would agree with the first five of your picks, but instead of Instatiable I conclude the list with Sometimes it Snows in April.

Fixed it - for me.

I think someone on here mentioned it, but there are two categories of Prince ballads - the love ballad, and the seduction ballad. Things like "Damn U," "Adore," or "Condition of the Heart" is the former.

Seduction is more "Do Me, Baby," "Scandalous," "Insatiable," "International Lover," etc.

But I suppose you could just mix them for the sake of a short list.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You think "Strange Relationship" is a ballad to compare to "Adore" or "Crucial," or anything else under 80 bpm?

No but the poster said that was a sott song they didnt like
I guess sott is a more challenging listen as its still a double album
But its a double without much self indulgence (you could say adore gets a bit overlong, but hey) like most doubles are
Every song bangs
You may not like it but it has no bad songs
Even It, it cant be that bad as pj harvey and josh Homme covered it!
