D&P 2023 Remaster out now

I know not another thread šŸ˜…

Qubuz.com US store has the 2023 Remasterd album (only) for purchase "buy now" in 16 & 24 bit.

https://www.qobuz.com/us-...87jo7d07yb

Also on Amazon music it will let you play the main album and select tracks. I pre orderd there.

Now I'm assuming the tracks I heard are from this release. I'm not sure if it's just me, i only compared a few tracks to the old release and they dont sound much better or worse. There is a noticeable difference, but not sure which is better.

I'm sure there are others who have heard it by now. Any thoughts ?

I listened to it.

I enjoyed it. I never thought the original mastering sound bad.

I didn't compare them.

If it wasn't labelled remaster I probably wouldn't have thought ooh this sounds different.

I'm not really into remasters. I think it's mostly a gimmick to keep selling people the same albums.

The only real plus sign is when the album is on streaming and it's labelled as remaster you know your getting the whole album from the same master.

Unlike we currently have for a few Prince albums.
Something BIG Is Coming.

It was fun to hear the remasters. Some songs like Walk Don't Walk sound much better to my ears. Others like Money Don't Matter Tonight I am not so sure if I like it better (too bass heavy). Haven't done any direct comparisons yet though. The clunkers are still clunkers though. This will never really be a favorite album of mine. Some great tracks on it on the other hand. If I buy this set it will mainly be for the Blu-ray/dvd live sections of the set.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Yeah most remasters are not too great.
SOTT SDE was the exception, sound was amazing.

D&P remaster it's not much better.
I think the original release sounds better.
But again I havent fully digested it.

EDIT: disregard everything below, I didnā€™t know I have the Dolby Atmos setting on and was listening to the at mix instead of the straight up remaster.

The remaster is not ALL bad, but some of the tracks sound atrocious.

I will have to spend more time comparing but the one that is ruined in the remaster:

ā€œGETT OFF.ā€

I think Bernie Grundman needs to retire.

(Edit was because I forgot ā€œnotā€ when saying it was not all bad.)

While the difference isn't as stark as SOTT in terms of quality, this does sound a lot better in the parts where it needed it the most. Right away I noticed I didn't have to turn the volume up as much when I do when listening to the 1991 version.

.

This remaster brings out the best in even the weaker songs.. I won't go near Jughead but songs like Push finally bring to surface the dense instrumentation going on in the background. Push walks so Sacrafice of Victor can RUN!

.

Thunder is finally the epic rock opera it was destined to be. I can enjoy the guitar/synth conglomeration without piercing my ear drums. Gett Off and Cream sound impecable and beyond better than the OG mixes. The jazz/pop tracks get a well deserved upgrade. It was a treat to hear the drum fills at the end of Strollin that usually are buried underneath the vocals.

.

All in all, there will be haters but this remaster does an impecable job with it's source material.

What was destined to be a dated album sounds pretty fresh when compared to the ass trash of music currently at the top of the charts. This was Prince purposely going mainstream and yet it still has moments of music sophistication (with definte flashes of whatthefuckery)

.

Album should defiintly be experienced on nice speakers or headphones!

EDIT: MY BAD, I was listening to the Atmos by mistake.

Really, re: ā€œGett Offā€?
.
The remaster changes the character of the sound dramatically. So much so, that it really sounds like a remix rather than just a remaster.
.
I havenā€™t done a enough A/Bing yet, but ā€œLive 4 Loveā€ is similarly treated with disregard for the original.

A/Bing "Get Off" I personally don't hear any drastic changes, as is with any remaster just the overall basic overall qualities done with the mix which sound less compressed and ear fatique laden but the balance of instruments don't seem drastically different to me personally

It sounds just like it always did, but with more dynamic range

If you're like me, listening through Apple Music, first i listened to the Atmos mix and i think there is a problem with Gett Off, as if some channels are missing, same with Money Don't Matter 2night for example.

But when you i turned my amp to stereo mode, all was exactly as it should!

That's the Atmos version. I don't know what they've done but it's complete shit. It's like they did the remix, then left some of the channels off on the released version.

If you switch off Atmos and listen to the regular remaster, it sounds great.

It just sounds like they turned up the bass and drums a little. The original master wasn't bad. It wasn't too loud like Gold

Yes, all is right in the world now with that Atmos setting disabled.

Judging by the leaked Diamonds and Pearls track, and comparing to the old cd....the new remaster sounds some what muted. Not bad, but the highs have been refined....I think. The cymbals are not as loud or high...

I think there is a little more bottom but it's not overboard.

I believe I've read that Prince let Tony write his own raps. I assume he let Rosie write her rap for Push? I'm trying to determine responsibility for the closing lines of her rap:

I said, Mamma, don't put me under pressure.
I love you and think you're fresher.

Sweet Jesus that's terrible. Even if she wrote it, Prince at the very least approved it. That's shameful.
