Diamonds & Pearls Dolby Atmos mix Thought I'd start a new thread for this as it's a complete reinterpretation of D&P that is being sold separately from the deluxe box set - not to be confused with the vanilla remastered version. Chris James has truly excelled himself here - invest in compatible headphones or speakers and treat your ears, folks.
Thunder, Daddy Pop, Walk Don't Walk, Jughead, Push and Live 4 Love sound reinvented to these ears ... bold remixing but, for me (and some will vehemently disagree) still respectful to the original masters. That 90s 'sheen' is pretty much gone. It's D&P reimagined. Don't underestimate how much work has gone into this. The rhythm guitar in Push could take someone's head off now... Live For Love never really hit for me, was too over-produced, campy ... this is quite an extraordinary interpretation of how it should have perhaps originally sounded if the technology had been available.

just to be clear: this is not available yet, this is something you got to preview, so you can write a review about it, right?

No, I only had the remaster before - the Dolby Atmos mix was released on Apple Music today. Enjoy!

Just type in Diamonds and Pearls deluxe - you'll see the 'Dolby Atmos' under the album cover. Plug in the headphones and play.

walk don't walk really is a big difference with the normal album version in this dobly atmos mix

and I see what you mean about the rhythm guitar in Push sharp and cuttin' hard

I like this a lot. Thunder just kicked my ass, thoroughly.

You listen to Live for Love yet? It always seemed 'flat' to me, a big production that collapsed under its own weight... but Chris has given each element space to exist in the Atmos mix. It sounds absolutely huge, widescreen, panoramic - but without pomposity or pretension. It's the fucking iMax after the Betamax. The guitar solo at the end sounds like it's burning in hell.

Because of this blu ray audio release, I actually upgraded my surround receiver to a new ATMOS capable unit. I am in the middle of setting it up with ceiling speakers. It took a Prince release like this one to get me to upgrade after 20 years:) Is there any details mixed for the ceiling speakers?

P whispers 'kill them all' repeatedly over every track from the Atmos ceiling speakers - except for Insatiable and Tony's raps.

jughead actually sounds menacing. damn, it's scaring me a bit love it!

Totally ... this is a highly unexpected experience. You can hear absolutely every single thing in the mix, like you're standing in the centure of the stage as the band plays in front of and behind you (and above and below!). Gett Off is the furthest removed from its original version I think - all the compression is gone and various elements have been mixed forward/backwards. Wasn't sure at first but it was just the shock of the new - fucking love it, sounds absolutely explosive and drippingly sexual. Walk Don't Walk sounds psychedelic, trippy as hell.

Jughead, somehow, now has the dark manic energy of Superfunkycali... these multitracked rhythm guitars being so prominent in the mix gives the song in an entirely new dynamic and sense of purpose.

Listen to the backing vocals on the chorus of Money Don't Matter. There's incredible high falsetto harmonies that were completely buried in the original mix.

Absolutely ... what a surprise. Push now sounds like an absolute monster NPG in mass attack Symbol/GN jam ... but that 'They call me Rosie G and I just don't care' line still makes my balls retract. [Edited 9/28/23 15:37pm]

Indeed, "Money Don't Matter 2Nite" has some very nice little things in the mix
