Are you gen-Z? It's a reeeaaal slippery slope when you start playing the moral superiority game with your heroes. If only cancel culture made society more cognizant that everyone has equal potential/liklihood of being a "piece of shit" as you so eloquently put it. We're literally one Sinead anecdote and a Mayte Garcia or Anna Fantastic away from finding Prince at least somewhat comparable to J.B....

Harder than p funk too, just cos he was more minimalist, esp when he had bootsy collins in the band. But in fairness i dont think either prince or Clinton had the same aims in their music as jb. Prince's is really unleashed in those long extended jams and rehearsals. But p, jb and Clinton are all funk doctors in their own right. Definitely all approached it in their own way, i agree. I honestly don't know who i like the most out of the three.

its worth remembering JB and clinton did a lot of other genres and styles too so its not like every song they ever did was a 100% hardcore funk jam but i think JB just funked harder, esp when the collins brothers were in his band, as they played hard and tight, and his sound was just sparser and more minimalist (i think this is where prince got his less is more approach that he used in the 80s from??). which just logically lent to him funking that much harder.

James Brown definitely one ups Prince when it comes to pure, hard, no BS funk. But there is no universe where James Brown is a better singer than Prince. No way. No how. Never. No. That statement should warrent a 2 week suspension from the Org

JB def had his own distinctive voice, and he had a certain sincerity or gritty down to earth 'realness' (for lack of a better word) that i dont think most of us would say prince had, but yeah, he was obv much more limited as a singer than prince.

That JB performance on the TAMI show may be the most ridiculious funk performan EVER. Graycap23 was ME!
