Prince Withdrawn original album series box-set

spread4-1024x679.jpg

Did anyone ever see this for real?

Was it ever on ebay?

Did the Madonna one ever appeared?

And what a strange combination of Prince albums...

(...) "Around The World In A Day" and in particular "Sign 'O' The Times" are the notable omissions from his classic eighties commercial and critical high. (...)

(Just found that the Madonna box-set one is still for sale...)

I own a copy, is not that rare.

By the time it got withdrawn lots of copies were distributed around the world.

It's just a WB product, recycling old stock putting them into cardboard sleeves and selling them as bundles. They do this with lots of other acts. I don't think any artist had any input on the album selection or any of this, that's probably why Prince had this stopped.

But if you search a bit you still can find it from time to time under a reasonable price.

Not to criticise his decision, but Prince most probably stopped this because he was only making pennies from such a budget rerelease bundle.
And the selection (as usual with these kind of bundles) is made to include a few big sellers and one or two poor sellers (such as Lovesexy in this case) – they obviously aren't going to include both Purple Rain and SOTT, the latter was reserved for another box.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

You have the LP's or CD's bo set?

BAoslutely. Prince was right.

I meant a similar, future box. It's common to release more than one of these 5-album budget bundles from a single artist, so the label obviously wouldn't want to put the 5 biggest sellers into one box and ending up having to release a second set that practically nobody wants to buy.

This Prince box was supposed to be part of Warner's "Original Album Series", which features many different artists:

Sets by Bootsy, Larry Graham, George Benson were among this series.

Haven't seen these boxes (yet) in Euorpe.

Or maybe i didn't pay to much attention to them.

I've seen this cheap set exposed a couple of times in a record store, once in my city in Italy and the second time in Rotterdam, if I remember correctly.

I also wanted to buy a set to listen to the previously unreleased, limited edition status and immerse myself in Prince's extraordinary musical legacy.
