Horny Pony v2 Discussion Thread Cool track, more synth and drum machine driven than the sparse bass version? Maybe elements of the tracking are shared? I can't tell right now, will have to compare them tomorrow.
awesome song [Edited 9/1/23 17:32pm] |

It's OK.
Not much to it really. I like the multi layered vocals on the chorus.
I kept expecting some more instrumentation to come in but it never did.
I think out of all the alternate version that have come out this is probably the least interesting. [Edited 9/2/23 0:20am]

yup, this version is pretty darn cool. so stripped down, but so incredibly interesting.
I heard elements of God Is Alive, Koo Koo, Dopamine Rush and other stuff. And yet, it is only a drum (and bass?) track with some keyboards. Ultra sparse yet interesting.
this was one of the songs I cared nothing about being on the SDE and now it's one of my surprise favs. .

This version is like 10 different songs mixed into one. God Is Alive, Koo Koo, Scarlet Pussy, Glam Slam 91, La La La, etc. Sort of reminds me of that in the same way that Coco Boys somehow sounds like every 86' track mixed into one.
The "version 2" naming is ridiculous and illogical, as usual. Remember "Jealous Girl (Version 2)" as opposed to...? Why they can't be a little more detailed when naming these is beyond me, just denote it as what it is and not with some vague "Version 2" tag. It means nothing. Anyway, I wonder if this came first or if the other sparse but more bass-heavy hit me version came first. Great track, and both earlier versions absolutely whallop the overproduced mess that is the released version. |

Beat and bass sounds like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme.
That show was started in 1990, so makes sense.
Original released version is better but great to see the process.
His self-heckle is the highlight. Always love the funny bits. [Edited 9/2/23 8:35am]

Yet another half-baked, poorly mixed and unfinished track. I thought they said they aren't going to release unfinished stuff. And again, no info whatsoever about the track, whether it's a mix they found on a mixdown tape or is it something they came up with... So unprofessional, it's sad. |

Who gives a shit if it's just a sketch or unfinished, these are archival releases. Though I would tend to agree that if they keep with the idea of SDE's (which they should ditch) then maybe stuff like this would be better suited for larger releases.
My point is, stop the SDE madness. |

No, these are not "archival releases". A professionally done archival release would come with all available versions, demos, mixes – and full explanations about how they were found, if they had to be remixed or not, about all the creative decisions the producers had to make etc, etc. . This is a commercial release that tries to look "archival" and professional, but the way it's done is questionable to say the least. |

instead of version 1 or 2 or whatever, it would probably be better to just have the original title and in brackets the recordingdate of that take/mix.
i don't mind works in progress, but it's weird that they don't give full dts for the songs they include.
anyway, i'm loving this version.
as the kids say: this FUCKS!

You know what. You're exactly right, I misspoke and agree with you completely. It isn't worth calling them archival releases as that would imply some level of study and comprehensiveness. |

The alternative version we already knew sounds a bit like this one… same voice/pace. This new alternative version sounds much more like a demo though. Far away from being a finished track. |

Though clearly a demo, it's interesting to hear and quite different from the version on D&P beginning. I'll take it. |

Maybe that's what was written on the tape in the vault? What would you prefer it to be called? |

. Of course we don't know what info will be included in the upcoming SDE book. But relevant info should be released whenever a new vault track is released, and they already released the 7" box set and the online singles without any info. . Also, getting photos of the original multitrack tape boxes and track allocation sheets is nice, but they don't contain any info regarding the sourcing / editing / mixing / remixing / remastering decisions made by the Estate. And in that regard, previous SDE editions weren't transparent either, so I'm not optimistic about the D&P box either – especially since the songs released so far are alarmingly worse mixes than the previous releases were. |

Where did you get the pic as I didn't see in the official site? I suppose that it is a screenshot of the promotional video. [Edited 9/4/23 6:05am] "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search." |

I'm fine with the mix they did on Alice & Insatiable is obviously from a mixdown (and cut at 16 Khz) so it is what it is.
Was not a fan of Niko Bolas anyway, I won't miss him.
Though, i agree that a little bit more info on the work done would be appreciated. |
