Lovesymbol / Symbol

What do people think the current status of this is and how many were likely to be pressed?

What about the possibility of an end of October announcement for a January release?

Maybe there is a Deluxe and SDE to go with it also

On one hand it’s unlikely in the foreseeable with D&P soon and PR next year but on the other hand if they’ve pressed a load they may as well sell them.
.
I wouldn’t be interested in just a remaster but I’d love a SDE with outtakes etc.
.
Spicer confirms the rumours in the Classic Pop interview about a joint SDE and I wouldn’t have minded that personally. Of course they both deserve their own SDE but if that meant getting some Symbol outtakes/alt versions I’d bite their hand off. Rather have them now than wait years or not all all

Why does how many are pressed have any relevance to anything?

I reckon this teal vinyl limited edition might get released for Black Friday or around that time (late November, early December) as a re-issue, may be exclusive to Target in the USA (or similar) and some European stores, plus/or the Prince Store. It won’t be a deluxe or super deluxe, so just the regular album but may be a remaster. This is one of the few Prince albums (may be the only 80’s/90’s one) that I think is out of print, so probably worth a punt by the estate/Sony/WB to cash in on top of the D&P SDE for some extra Christmas presents. The original album (2xvinyl like this) goes for about £50 on eBay, that is used copies, so they’d be silly not to make it available again soon.
There may or may not be something coming!

There is no maybe about it. It literally says on the hype sticker "Remastered for the very first time."

I’m every post I do, I like to slip in typo or other error, a bit like Persian rugs, just to see how excited some people get at pointing them out.

would it be nice to include the Act 2 tour as well even if they're both not full shows and the afterzhow at a London club, the full show on Blu Ray as well?

Well if it ever gets released,I will certainly buy a copy. This is a superb album…way more adventurous and ‘fun’ than D&P.I could use a new, remastered copy.

If the Estate actually released Love Symbol SDE before Purple Rain I would reevaluate the effectiveness of their recent work.

Because I have no idea the typical amounts on a run
And if it's thousands surely there would be more chance of a release in some form to recoup any losses

Why y'all so worried about the net gross??? Do you know what the losses are right now? Did you have a number? Is there a plan you have to "recoup any losses?" And why is it any of our business? Bruh, it's not our business. And thank God for that.

I'm going overboard because we, as fans, have zero knowledge of gains or losses in the estate. We don't know royalty rates, plays, streams, sales, the details of a distribution deal, pressing costs, or any other related expense packaging a Prince album for retail.

Even if they did lose money on this - how does that affect any of our day to day existence? Does our phone get shut off? Does our Netflix go belly up? Does our fridge sudden go void of sustenance?

Our goal is to get the music as it comes out, support it by buying it, and just enjoy the vast ear-wealth that is the vault. Just enjoy the process, my dude.

"Before leaving, the previous managers had been working on a box set that would include the albums from 1991 and 1992, "Diamonds And Pearls" and the album "Symbol," remastered and accompanied by unreleased tracks from that period, as well as DVDs or Blu-rays of the Glam Slam concerts from January 1992 and Paris, Bercy from July 11, 1992, and, it's whispered, the audio from the aftershow at the Rex Club in Paris in 1993. This box set, titled "Diamonds And Love," was obviously intended to be released in multiple formats and was scheduled for late 2022."

yeah, everyone's turned into Chief Financial Officer of the Prince Estate.

"well obviously they did Diamonds & Pearls as the next SDE because it was second highest selling" blah blah blah.

like yeah well okay, buuuuuut.. it sucks. Is it your second fav Prince album? No? Then why advocate for cold numbers method of interpreting Prince. Most of his albums sold/sell worse than new coke anyway I mean wtf is this mj.org, let's break out the pie charts and bar graphs while we're at it...

The money is likely going to dictate when and what is released. I'd like to believe it's all about the art, but I don't.

If the estate spend a lot to compile a prince release but it doesn't get released. The next release will probably be something commercial to make up for it. Similarly, to avoid having albums grouped together for SDEs they have to sell.

This is after all a bidness.

The current SDE release is something commercial.

The next SDE release will be something commercial.

'Parade' and 'Love Symbol' will continue to collect dust on the shelves because it's a commercial business and all that, only like... how do you or they even know they won't sell until we try one? Literally every single SDE has been something commercial based on assumed sales figures and everyone falls lock-step with the perspective--we haven't even attempted something. Maybe if 'Parade' or 'Love Symbol' came out and were busts, then okay...

I'm not even a big fan of this next record I'm about to bring up either, but to me the true litmus test of this entire enterprise would come in the form of one SDE: 'The Gold Experience'. They finally secured the rights to TMBGITW. The album is a low, low seller, but has a high legacy. Roll the dice on that one and if that somehow fails then we can go back to playing Captain Finance.

Gold would be a cult item and sell worse than parade, dirty mind, atwiad even, etc.
No one bought it for tmbgitw as they already bought the single a year or so earlier.
The rest of the album remains a fan concern only, pretty much.
Its important in the symbol/name change story but then chaos and disorder is prob more significant as it was the last album of new songs he gave to warners.

Here to remind you guys once again that if you're thinking about these sets as NEEDING to be linked to a specific album, you're shooting yourself in the foot from the get-go. Only when they re-brand the whole release strategy will we actually see the true potential.

Big shame this didn’t happen for me.
It could’ve been then or never to get likes of alternate versions of Love 2 The 9’s and remixes of The Max etc

VOFFS was not seen as a 'new' album though. it was known that it was an album of songs from the vault, hence the title, so im not counting that really.

doesnt look like the estate have any plans to do a chronological bootleg series like dylan, or even random-tracks-from-the-vaults like the hendrix estate have done (not well, so i hope this is not the strategy they use, ever), so for now, all we have really is the idea that albums will be re-released with unreleased songs from that period (roughly).

id have preferred D&P and symbol to be released in one huge SDE personally, just to get them both out the way, plus it would make a cool little summary of the NPG (really the only true NPG, all the other inccarnations of the NPG were only in name) era. but that would prob be HUGE, and prohibitively expensive as a result, esp if they insist on including all mixes, edits, etc etc. if it was just vault songs and live shows, then it could have worked.
