New Power Generation (Best Of)

Selections from all 3 NPG releases, as well as tracks from the Blankman soundtrack. The first release in 93, GoldN, was rap driven and featured very little of Prince. While Tora Tora (Prince) was omnipresent on the 96 release, Exodus, he is not lead vocalist on every track. But I think it was an overall stronger effort than their last album in 98, New Power Soul. Doesn't include songs credited to Prince and the New Power Generation. Just solo NPG albums released independently of major labels.

1. Superhero/Outta Space

2. New Power Soul

3. Return of the Bump Squad

4. Get Wild

5. Black MF in the House

6. Freaks on the Side

7. Come On

8. Wasted Kisses

9. The One

10. Until U're in My Arms Again

11. Hallucination Rain (long version)

12. I Like Funky Music

13. Count the Days

14. The Good Life

15. The Exodus Has Begun

That Blankman soundtrack was probably my first Prince exposure that I liked (hated his Joker scenes Batman songs as a kid... still kinda do actually, "Partyman"'s okay enough now though, Jordan's Last Dance made me appreciate it more).

The Batman sountrack at the time was a revolutionary concept that now is par for the course. That follows suit with much of Prince's work, which was always slighlty ahead of the times. Also features some incredible tracks that I would revisit. The Future, Electric Chair and Vicki Waiting. Plus Scandalous is one of his most beguiling ballads. As well as the B side Dance with the Devil. Although Batdance gets a lot of haters, it charted number 1 for a reason. Nobody produced as many unconventional hit singles as Prince. And this one is an illustration of his extreme talent in dancing, choreography, musicianship, sound mixing and arrangement. All of the videos as Gemini were top of the food chain stuff in 1989.
