I have zero confidence that this SDE will pass basic quality control standards. We can probably expect half of the liner notes to have typos or incorrect info, and half of the audio tracks to be mixed in mono or accidentally put to CD as 128kbps mp3s.

Even the tracklisting some of the songs have like bootleger-looking titles, when 10 of the tracks were "given away" and officially released (approved by Prince) with slightly different titles.

Honestly, this is kind of my worry too. But it's also an album that features Insatiable and Cream so you never know. He could have left off some really good songs just so he could include more Tony M because he thought that was what the public wanted.

Even the 10 originals included show a pretty diverse pallette of styles that he willfully discarded to make D&P more of an uptempo Top 40-ish sales candidate.

That being said, those 10 originals are about all I'm hyped for with this release, but hey, maybe there's a couple other gems on them Vault discs...

I like D&P - will certainly buy a deluxe edition. He was very pop at that time, trying to increase mass appeal again - so hopefully we will have some unheard cool smashy hits

Just listening back to the original D&P album on vinyl this morning.

After the passing of time, it’s interesting what your ears value (over 20 years on).

Tracks I’ve genuinely enjoyed (today) were: Daddy Pop; Diamonds & Pearls; Cream; Strollin’; Gett Off;

Thunder sounds really thin, and for an opener it just felt really weak (listening in 2023).

Other surprises - Jughead (surprisingly!!) - it’s funkier than I remembered and Rosie / Prince / Tony’s contribution keep it moving along at a lick. Push also.

Insatiable was never one of his strongest ballads IMO and Live 4 Love I just never got that track. Appreciate the live version has some blistering guitar on it though. It was a statement track, but musically it did nothing for me.

And all of that considered I can’t wait to hear this new collection!
