Emancipation reimagined as a double album

I've read several published articles and perused enough fan sites to learn that nearly every one of the 36 tracks on the official triple album release makes an appearance on more than a handful of people's single album versions. Thus only a handful of pretty obvious throwaway tracks rarely, if at all, make anyone's single album configuration. Thus I feel the more inclusive reimagined condensed version, should be 18-24 tracks. So more of a double album running between 90 minutes (18 songs) and 2 hours (24 songs). Moreover, there were tracks that originally appeared in earlier configurations that most critics and fans would surely agree deserved inclusion over some of those aforementioned throwaways, such as 'Da Da Da' and 'The Plan', a short and inconsequential instrumental that first appeared on Kamasutra by the NPG Orchestra. While Emancipation had no lack of strong songs, I would imagine initial reviews would have been less critical of the "unevenness" if these tracks were left off in favor of gorgeous songs like 'Extraordinary' (The closing track on The Vault: Old Friends for Sale), 'Journey 2 the Center of Your Heart' (Given to Chaka Khan), and 'She Gave Her Angels' or 'Goodbye' (Both made the Crystal Ball compilation). With all that said, here is my choice for the ultimate reimagined condensed version. Without the addition of the 3 standout songs from earlier configurations included in my version, I would have included Face Down, Slave and one of the Philly soul covers, although I always felt those were too similar to the original versions, whereas most people feel he made 'One of Us' more impactful and anthemic (and that guitar solo!) and his take on 'Eye Can't Make U Luv Me" brings the quiet storm! Decided against 'Let's Have a Baby' and 'Curious Child' cause they now seem inappropriate considering the loss of Mayte's and his child. DISC 1/SIDE A: 1. Jam of the Year 2. Right Back Here in My Arms 3. Somebody's Somebody 4. White Mansion 5. In This Bed Eye Scream 6. Eye Can't Make U Luv Me DISC 1/SIDE B: 1. Get Yo Groove On 2. Sex in the Summer 3. One Kiss at a Time 4. Sleep Around 5. Joint 2 Joint 6. Extraordinary DISC 2/SIDE A : 1. One of Us 2. My Computer 3. Dreaming About U 4. Damned If Eye Do 5. Holy River 6. Soul Sanctuary DISC 2/SIDE B: 1. Savior 2. Journey 2 the Center of Your Heart 3. She Gave Her Angels 4. Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife5. The Love We Make 6. Emancipation

I'm not reading that without some paragraph breaks, or at least the fucking LIST of songs not sidebysidebyside.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I recently revisited this album and, to be honest, I wouldn't change a thing. It was presented as a magnum opus and I think it still stands as Prince's statement of intent during that period. I'm not an antirevisionist but I really did appreciate it more listening to it recently 😎✌️🎸

I wouldn't change Emancipation at all.

Your double album would be different to my double album, and both would be different from their double albums.

The only outcome would be people trying to track down the third disc of unreleased songs. I do think it's curious that this seems to be the only album where people say "Prince released too much music". As it stands you have 3 CDs and can make a playlist including whatever songs you want. I'd rather have that, than cassette ripped bootlegs.

That's just as bloated as the 3-disk set. You've accomplished nothing with that list. While I agree with some of your subtractions, the additions don't compensate for anything.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

"Emale"'s so good. The premise/hook is a little silly, maybe that turns people off out the gate, but it's one of the very best tracks.

Try reimagines as 10 albums. I'm not interested in hearing less Prince music.

That's a great tracklist and there was a time I was preoccupied with turning the album into a two disc best of too..it took me a long time to really appreciate the album. It just sounded so bland for a Prince album and it was too much. I just consume it as three separate albums and that works better.

yeah this is Top 5 most-wanted SDE territory right here. requisite 2 discs of 1996 Vault material, bare minimum.

I mention this every Emancipation thread but one time I got it down to 12 tracks 1 CD and all the tracks came to 1:00:00 exactly, just like the individual discs on the 3CD version itself.

Didn't save the playlist and could never recreate it. If anyone out there ever does and it hits 1:00:00 exactly plz hit a orger up thx.

Emancipaton is my least favorite Prince album. Even a single-disk version would be too much for me. I'd cut it down to an EP:

1. Jam of the Year
2. Soul Sancutary
3. Curious Child
4. The Holy River
5. Face Down
6. The Love We Make

Hiden bonus song (tracked as number 99): Emancipation

If any song was released as a single, I'd make New World its b-side.

Human body is underrated. Also deserves to be a b side. Tbh this album is filled with good b side material.
