Regarding '01-'09 - A lot of it sounds sorta forced or trying too hard or not inspired, maybe just overall less fun than what I enjoy in Prince's work.
This is true for me too That fun and joy in creating music is a big part of why i liked his music so much Later on it felt like he was trying to force that Or just still creating music like he used to in abundance but maybe more out of habit than inspiration But im going to reivestigate this era again too [Edited 9/3/23 14:24pm]

It's basically a stretch where he did album-after-album of stuff basically Around the World the Day in philosophy (not ATWIAD genre) where it was like do whatever whenever and not be beholden what the general audience's or even hardcore fans idea or concept of "Prince" is.

I like this explaination because, like you said, that is exactly what makes Prince PRINCE "Whatever skin we're in

How are you doing Michael?
These would be my choices if we're talking commercial releases. One Nite Alone and NEWS maybe entering the conversation as well.

It's why it's my favorite period after the 80s prime. He just didn't give an F. Which might be why some don't "acknowledge" it, but it's why I love when it's highlighted.

And I notice that some mention what I think are the worst albums of this Prince era as their favorites. But I'm not surprised. There's always a polar opposite to any opinion. To each their own and so forth. I don't mind. It's like two people watching Batman Returns - one sees a remote controlled batmobile. The other sees Michelle Pfeiffer's character arc. That's just the way it is. I gave up on thinking other people had to like what I liked many years ago. I don't look at charts or best album lists by music sites. I have my own preferences. I like what I like. You don't have to like it too. [Edited 9/7/23 13:14pm] FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!
