Appreciate 99% of you will have no interest in the music, but I'd love the Estate to look at a well-curated release such as this as an example of how it should be done (and reasonably priced, too)- https://superdeluxeeditio...y-reissue/ Bearing in mind Marc Almond is no superstar like Prince, considering how many SDE releases and anthology collections, live sets etc Almond has released over the past few years, it really puts the Estates performance in grim light.

What?! They even had teh nerve to put promo videos on this?!
The Estate, please take note!

I would love for SDEs to include music videos. Those were a big part of the eras, especially in the '80s. It's a shame the previous sets didn't have them. They could be cleaned up and upscale -- which doesn't give you true HD, but makes them look somewhat better on a modern television.

once an artist is dead, you will not be able to get it exactly as they envisioned (w/r/t mixing, engineering, etc etc). you cant expect it to be as prince hoped. half of the vault stuff was prob never fully completed for one thing. but thats okay, i accept this.

I totally agree. I accept that some editorial decisions need to be made. I just wish the Estate would annotate the releases to let us know what those choices were and the rational behind them.

Correct. You're not.
If you feel so strongly about a post, maybe you could hit the report button. The one remaining moderator this site has will probably see to it when he can and decide what to do, if anything.
Calling someone out about a lack of manners then proceeding to insult them in open forum doesn't make you look good. While you're at it, you could go through the countless other threads with comments that contain a lack of manners from people, myself included, and report them too.
I bid you good day.

[Edited 8/16/23 9:22am]

Reporting won't do a single thing. He's been like this since the group was just an e-mail list but he must have an in with someone because anyone else acting like he does would have been booted years ago.

And if they could release the live shows separate from the SDE sets this time. I mean they could still put DVDs on the set but at least put it on a streaming service too. Not everyone owns a DVD/Blu-Ray Player especially these days.

.

Such players are super-cheap.

.

I do believe it's good to own physical media just incase they take it down but people want the concerts directly online where they could just buy it and watch it.

.

Streaming isn't buying.

I would have loved that to.
But myabe they'll do a complete released videos bluray inlcuding the alternate versions for Paisley Park, I wish U heaven, SOTT etc. I'd welcome that.
And for the reported numerous unreleased ones they could add those to SDE's or also on seperate Blurays. I would also love to see the home video releases (Gett Off, Undertaker, Bueatiful Strange etc.) get proper 4K Blurays.

The estate replaced that genuine 1080p "Te Amo Corazon" video that used to be "out there" with their 240p "master'. If that's the kind of "originals" they're gonna be upscaling the whole project would be a waste.

It would only be worth it it they include "associates" video,s, considering the best version of a video for something like "The One" is bootleg dubbed VHS quality.

I'm not even bothered about the announcemnet. Whatever it turns out to be won't be available for a few months anyway. When some music comes out, I'll pay money for it. Other than that I just don't care.

I wish I could just turn away and see music pop up one day and be surprised by it.

Like, imagine that for once, after 35 years, someone in your family or a friend is ACTUALLY
able to say "hey, I heard prince has a new album out" and you haven't already been sick of
waiting 3 years between rumors, delays, changes and more delays, but you are actually just
like 'what? I didn't know. let me check!' and there's a whole new 5 disc package up on some
website, ready for you to enjoy.

But that will never happen to me, I think. I'll always be suckered into begging for crumbs of
information and be completely kookoo by the time something is really released lol disbelief

Perhaps I'm reading into the post, but perhaps @Raevene meant that you can buy a permanent copy of a song (via CD or digital download), and then stream it through your own platform, such as Plex.

In other words, by "streaming" he might not have meant a commerical service, but more narrowly the technical ability to listen to a file on multiple devices via wireless (wifi, blutooh, cell signal).

I do this. I stream my permanently-owned files all the time.

I did actually mean buying on a streaming service. I have a bunch of stuff I bought on Apple Music that I can stream anywhere, as well as a handful of movies on YouTube which I can watch on any device that has YouTube.

Okay, but strictly speaking you didn't buy on a streaming service (Apple Music), you bought music from the iTunes Store (which is not a streaming service).
I'm not aware of how you can "buy" movies on YT. I would think that if you need YT for playback, you only paid for offline viewing while your subscription is paid for. But I don't really use YT.

I am literally buying that stuff to stream though, which Bart claims isn't a thing. With YouTube you can purchase movies the same way you can on Amazon. The feature isn't advertised as front and centre as Amazon does it because it's not really their main business model.

But the primary meaning of 'streaming' is 'using a streaming service', so the misunderstanding is understandable. And in that sense Bart was right in saying "streaming is not buying".
Of course you can use all sorts of playback methods at home for playing your own content, including using wireless transmission which is technically 'streaming' too, but that is not what how we generally use the term.

As much as "Daddy Pop (12" Mix)" feels like a chain-yanker, I promise that this came from a legit database of info. Now, it could be remnants of a canceled release, but I feel optimistic that it's the actual contents of an upcoming SDE.
