Any rumours, conjecture or hysterical confabulations about the august announcement?

8 days into the month. zzz

Most likely 22 more days to go before we hear something. lol

Seems they keep more of a lid on things, compared to the previous people in charge.

Is that because they run a tighter ship or is that because the ship is a little more of a
tugboat?

A 2 seater canoe perhaps?

I guess the pervious thread about 'what's new pussycat' got shut down due to it going
off the rails so let's try to keep this civil. It's not meant to be a hate fest or a dumping
on the estate frenzy.

It would be nice to keep it about the music.

Are we expecting the songs that were premiered at the celebration to be a part of the
announcement? What were those songs again? Which ones are you most excited about?

My guess: Vault Series Vol. 1 featuring all the songs played @ Celebration + a few more.

My guess; only these that were played. No extra's.

for now, I will take it. I just hope it's released sooner rather than later.

and honestly, what I would like even more than just 1 new set of songs,
would be an actual roll out of a plan for the future with more to go on for
us as fans. it would be so simple for them to just clue us in to what their
plans are.

So that is something I am also hoping for from the announcement -
some perspective on what to expect in the next few years or so.

I think there will possibly be an announcement about the D&P and symbol releases that we've seen pictures of. Whether these will be SDE's or not.. I'm struggling to care at this point.

If nothing is announced, well I won't be surprised nor disappointed. There are countless other artists that I'm interested in.
My days of purple tinted adoration are a long time behind me.

Exactly the same here.

-

I'm already much more excited to find a 'KooKoo' Maxi-Single for 1€, and quite an expensive 'Gotta Stop Messin' About' 45rpm (25€ in prisitine quality), and a Polish version of Purple Rain on vinyl (also 2€), plus a Madhouse '6' Maxi-Single (2€) I was looking for for a long time. smile

Just sayin'

-

Then again; I received the new Vinyl re-issue of 'Lovesexy' as a present from a friend,

and was dissapointed to see the artwork is a bad print,

the purple inspirationless sticker on the front mentioning the two singles 'Alphabet St.' and 'Glam Slam', but they forgot to mention 'I Wish U Heaven'...

plus a quote by Prince; "Lovesexy was (is?) a mind trip, like a psychedelic movie."

Did he really ever state that?! So it is not a psychedelic trip anymore then...

Sound isn't all that much better either.

I'd say they'll announce the D&P SDE + just a straight remastered reissue for the Lovesymbol album.

So that would mean no SDE treatment for the Symbol album.

I guess the new team is against the combined SDEs as planned by the previous management team and not kin on SDEs big box sets generally speaking.

Nonetheless, we'll probably have a big SDE box next year for the Purple Rain anniversary, and, if we're lucky, a regular Parade SDE box set in 2025 and that will be it. After that, they'll move on to something else.

It would have been nice to get a Batman SDE one day or a Lovesexy/Black album combo but this has very little chance to happen one day sad

hmm, I hadn't thought of that combination of factors yet but it seems possible if you look at the few
details we have now.

perhaps they have decided that all his back catalogue albums will be simple remasters with singles
attached as bonus and no outtakes or live footage.

they may feel like the vault material is better off being released on a Vault Series.

the big red flag for me, going off of what we know now about Vault Series 1 is that they are likely
planning to group a bunch of tracks from all over his recording carreer together on 1 disc.

if they decide on straight up remasters and then a Vault Series, it would be nicer to have it rolled
out in chronologic order.

they could even do 1 volume from the very beginning and then one volume from the very end and
in such a way work toward the middle or something.

I don't know though. If they plan on making the Vault Series single discs at a time they would
have to be coming very fast to be interesting, like 6 discs a year or something.

Yeah...

At the very least, a Vault Series would have to be a 3-4 cds box sets.

Even then, they'd have enough material to release dozens & dozens of them.

And what about the Originals series ? That would also be a safe path to follow.

I think The Originals series will be transformed into these new vault series, unfortunately tbh.

May I just quietly remind everyone that the online single we got last month came with the subtitle "Vault Series I". Not "from the Vault Series I" and not "Vault Series I Preview" or anything like that. It might have been just yet another error of course, but it certainly looks like the first release of "Vault Series" was that single.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

This for me. I have very low expectations like most.

We know from the leaked photos D&P/Symbol remasters exist but I just hope they include the Glam Slam 92 show, which we also know exists.

I'm not so sure we will get a D&P SDE cuz we still haven't seen any leaked tracklist for D&P SDE or pictures and earlier this year a Diamonds and Pearls: the Vault tracks EP tracklist (it seemed legit) showed up on Reddit. It was supposed to serves as a companion piece to the deluxe edition. The vault series should definitely be more than one disc a year. Each vault series should be focused on specific eras and contain about 50 - 100 unreleased songs. It's wishful thinking lol I take whatever they choose to release as long as it's new material biggrin I also hope there's plans for separate releases of concert footage and rehearsals.

I really hope they won't do a series with 10 songs on it wfrom different era's, hopefully they'll present the songs on these series in chronological order with extensive information in liner no tes.
Otherwise we'll get another Crystal Ball 98 mess.
Proper archival releases is the least what Prince deserves.
of course I would also love to see unreleased albums that are in the vault or unfinished projects with extensive information.

Or properly mixed Live boxsets (like a complete First Avenue audio/video set or Montruex Jazz festival complete set)

This is just speculation on my part but I find it really hard to believe that Howe & Co. had unlimited budget to systematically digitise and archive everything (multitracks, different mixes, demos, rehearsals, live tapes etc) – and even if they did, a mere couple of years would not have been enough for the entire vault – so I'm pretty sure they worked along pre-approved guidelines, meaning they had certain SDE projects in mind and only touched tapes that potentially fitted one of these projects.
.
Professionally transferring tapes costs a LOT of money (think of thousands of dollars per tape) at Iron Mountain, so I cannot imagine either the Estate or Comerica giving Howe the go ahead to „just transfer it all, don't worry about the costs!”. So if the new regime scrapped previously planned (and prepared) projects, they had to go into the vault and start looking for the tapes that fitted the new plans and start digitising them – without being able to just use whatever Howe already archived.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

exactly. These discussions are weird.

The famz are all anxiously anticipating being graced with yet another Vault Series Vol. 2 digital cybersingle in glorious mono like Prince always intended. You see, prior to the mid-1960s, when Prince recorded the bulk of his material, mono was the standard format of all radio stations and the general buying public. It wasn't until the late 60s that consumers even had access to proper turntables that could even play records in proper stereo-mix. So Prince would actually sit down with his engineers and spend a whole week carefully mixing the mono versions for all the records we love himself, while the stereo-mix was rattled off during an early afternoon tea-break by a sole engineer all by his lonesome while Prince was out bagging prime Greta Garbo.

I would most like to get proper unreleased albums if they are in the vault.

Things like High or Madrid 2 Chicago.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to well put together collections presented as albums. Like Jimi Hendrix's Cry Of Love and Rainbow Bridge.

For instance if the released all the songs left off Sign o The Times that were intended at one point for Dream Factory or put together the songs that were included on the unreleased Rave 89 configuration.
Something BIG Is Coming.
