Spicer blocked Netflix doc?

Heard thru the purple grapevine that Spicer might of blocked the Netflix doc. Not sure if it’s true or not but I’ve also heard a deal was in place so he/the estate could only delay it not stop it all together .

What was the Netflix documentary suppose to be about again?
I think I use to know when it was originally announced but it's been so long I have completely forgot
Was it about the first avenue concert from 83?

If I remember correctly, it was just a general documentary about his life and career. I think Apple was developing the documentary about his '83 First Avenue show.

It was supposed to be a multi part documentary focusing on the Eras of Prince.
Then it changed.

I have ZERO faith in Spicer or whoever else has their fat, untalented hands, in the pie. At this point, I honestly don't have any hopes or desires for a documentary, a limited series, or anything else.

Frankly, I don't even expect Parade or Diamonds and Pearls SDE to show up. Spicer would rather make power moves with nothing to show for it, except something to jerk off to when he's home at night in a dark room playing "Arrogance" on repeat. Fuck that guy.

Supposedly, the documentary has been blocked by Prince Legacy LLC (not only Spicer) because it shows the dark side of Prince (women, use of painkillers, etc).

Both sides can't get to an agreement on the content and they've been on a loop since then. No idea how long this mess could last.

Funny how the estate is presumably blocking this documentary because they're afraid it will get Prince "cancelled" and ruin his legacy, but they're also blocking themselves from putting out new music to keep his existing fans interested. I imagine the estate is steadily losing more people through inactivity and shoddy quality control than they ever would from a documentary painting Prince in an honest and whole light.

If it's true and the Netflix documentary is blocked then the estate can't release concert footage which means no SDE in the near future. Maybe the vault tracks they're releasing now (and next month?) is some kind of compensation for not being able to give us an SDE.

That would make sense.

However, it speaks to their (the estate's) incompetence if they agreed to let Netflix make a documentary without retaining the power to veto any content they didn't want in. To then also grant them exclusive access to footage (if that is indeed the case) What a bunch of goons. Doesn't McMillan consider himself an expert in this kind of thing?

Don't we already know about all the bad stuff prince has done?

We do, but the general Netflix audience only knows he wore a puffy Mozart shirt and sang "Purple Rain."

It's a valid concern that he could be "cancelled" or more likely "dragged on Twitter" for stuff like, oh, moving Mayte and Anna Fanastic into Paisley Park when they were 16/17 and counting the days until the clock struck midnight on the eve of their 18th. The way he treated his band mates. Even Michael Jordan gets dragged for being a hardass with his team mates.

That being said, the Estate should have seen that capt. obvious scenario occuring the day Netflix drafted up a contract for this doc.

They gotta be even more deluded than the most cultish of Prince fans if they seriously thought Netflix was going to produce a happy-go-lucky puff piece all about his donations and charity work, a segment about MJ like fans here depict that omits the James Brown Grammy Party and "bass-in-the-face" and only discusses Prince locking himself in Paisley Park after MJ's transition, and that one time he defended him at a press conference.

Most people with zero interest in Prince would be quite interested in "The Opiate Experience" this doc was likely shaped into. It probably literally opens with him in the elevator before the opening credits. That's how these things go...

They could/would hypothetically shelve the SDE's if he was cancelled.

You know, if we were in an alternate reality where the SDE's weren't already shelved and cancelled...

It's not that they can't release any SDE but they need to reach an agreement with Netflix for any concert footage that they want to add to it & Netflix has the right to veto any content they aim to use for the documentary.

Which means, if D&P SDE comes out this fall as expected, either it doesn't have any concert footage on it (unlikely) or the video content on it has been approved by Netflix in the first place which means they're not interested to use it.

When it comes to the Parade SDE, things are a bit more complicated it seems because it's likely the Estate might want to add the Yokohama final show with the Revolution to the SDE but i'm guessing Netflix wants to keep his exclusive rights for this one. This would explain why we haven't seen any Parade SDE yet.

To be fair, the Netflix deal has been approved by the Comerica management team not by Prince Legacy LLC. I guess Netflix made an offer than they couldn't turn down.
