Has anyone else reevaluated the merits of his later albums since his passing? There's just something about knowing that there won't be any more brand new albums from the guy, that's made me go back lately and reevaluate some of his later works which I had previously dismissed or not cared for. "Musicology" and "Hitnrun Phase 2" especially are two releases which I felt fairly ambivalent towards upon release, which I've really been loving lately.
I guess it was easy to take his work for granted when he was alive and we always knew there'd be a steady flow of new music coming out the purple gates. I still find "3121" and "20Ten" to be very patchy, but in hindsight, I'm glad they exist. [Edited 7/21/23 2:58am]

HitNRun Phase Two is really an amazing album. I find myself listening to that one a lot.

Absolutely!
Planet Earth especially, both Hitnruns, & Lotus Flower have had renewed interest and love since his passing.
I already loved Rainbow Children, Musicology and 3121 and still do.
I still can't warm up to 20ten.

A little. I've grown to appreciate HitnRun Phase 2, in particular, but also Plectrumelectrum. Didn't pay them much attention until fairly recently. "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

Not really. Things went downhill with RAVE, picked up with TRC, and things were very patchy until the 3rdEyeGirl era when he seemed to find his creative mojo again. Lotusflow3r/MPLSound being an exception. I've always quite liked. I did find myself listening to, and re-evaluating, the remixes on various singles.

Only Lotus continues to tickle my tits. I find the rest to be mediocre at best. Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

I totally feel you on this, that's why i always listen to everything Prince produced on random play. The perspectives are intense! "Whatever skin we're in

I love Hit&Run phase 2, great final album. Musicology is just ok to me, 3121 is much better.

Everything in the last 16 years of his life is 50/50 for me. At best. Once he got into his acrylic production mode, the music suffered a lot. Nothing much has changed in my opinion, though I like Hitnrun Phase II a little more than I did previously. The Rainbow Children is still, to me, the crowning achievement of his post 80s work (the album that stands alongside his best 80s albums. It is probably my favourite Prince album alongside Parade). And Lotusflower is still the runner-up, my favourite album of his last ten years. Hundalasiliah!

Makes as much sense as you calling out the "acryllic" production of his later albums and then rating Rainbow Children and N.E.W.S., two of the most undeniably organic albums in his catalogue, as 4/10 and 1/10 (dis)respectively. [Edited 7/21/23 18:44pm]

If AOA had proper singles, the best hit b run somgs would have been great b sides I dont think they each deserve to be albums Plus im still annoyed they diluted the impact of aoa, his best album proper in a long time

For me, the latest Prince is always the best Prince, even though I have great appreciation for the earlier works. But, I thought Prince was hitting a new high again, his live playing with 3rd Eye Girl was reenergized. Especially if you compare his live shows with 3rd Eye Girl to the Welcome 2 America stuff, it's not even close.

Aoa wouldve been a good final album. Not quite his black star (no bad thing seeing as that was a bit too self conscious of itself) but a good way to go out... but prince being prince, he went out with four albums, mot just one lol
