Depicting him in a negative light likely wouldn't "cancel" him. But it could put off new fans or older fans who lost interest. It could hurt already relatively low sales. It certainly wouldn't be of benefit.

Nah...that stuff is all media driven and agenda driven...all people have flaws and character issues, and most of the general public overstands that....when people listen to music, they dont really care about the artists personal life, they just wanna hear good music...people listen to, and still love Michael Jackson music, James Brown music, Prince music, RKelly music, Kanye West music, Elvis Presley music, etc...consumers of music know that those artists were allegedly weirdos and possibly even participated in some abusive or deviant or degenerate, or even criminal behavior...as long as the music resonates with them, people will listen to, and even support those type of artists...good music transcends the media formed opinions of the artists making the music.

Pretty rare to hear Jackson or Kelly on the radio these days. A quick look at Kanye's discography page on Wikipedia; it doesn't look like he's selling like he used to.

There is a podcast on BBC Sounds called Evil Genius with Russell Kane. They did a Prince episode and even there, he didn't come out of it very well.

If he "didn't come out of it very well" that says everything about Russel Kane, nothing about Prince.
.
To even just consider someone "evil" based on a single, ridiculous accousation of him being "misogynist and violent" – when a hundred women, who actually knew him in one way or another says the exact opposite is outrageous.
.
Similarly, I think that whomever even just mentions Prince on the same page as criminals like M. Jackson or R. Kelly is out of their f...in minds.

I still hear MJ on the radio all the time, it's definitely not rare.

I believe it's bitter MJ stans who want Prince dragged too.

definitely that. what does that even mean though?

[Edited 7/16/23 19:53pm]

MJ stans are jealous of Prince so they join on the hate train or add to the fire by creating nonsense. They are all around in the comments and Twitter replies, just type in on youtube "the detail. prince vs mj", "prince michael jackson james brown", then scroll down and they are there. Or type in "prince homophobic" and checks the quotes on twitter. I remember seeing a crazy MJ stan on Twitter saying that Prince was an abuser, beat women and all that sort of stuff. Then there's another saying, Prince fans only like Prince because of the hair cause he looks like MJ, Prince didn't play 27 instruments and it was just a marketing plan. And last but not least, Prince was only a American artist and was only known in USA. search @thrillermj83 on twitter and go to his replies, he's crazy.

It's bad but 9 times out of 10 when someone comes near that story, they dismiss it cause she's koo koo. She already got sued for slandering Arsenio with that story of him supplying Prince drugs, so yeah people tend not to worry about her fake story because they know it's BS.

How is one crazy MJ stan on twitter indicative of the general public's feelings about Prince?

Why the fuck should McMillan have a say, Primary Wave is the majority stakeholder so should be calling the shots!

I thought the same thing as well. Can’t remember where I read it but I think primary wave is more concerned on publishing and acquiring catalogs so I think they allow the other stakeholders to run the day-to-day more. I might be mistaken, but from what’s going on lately it Seems like that might be true.

Lately, they have been calling Prince a "violent homophobe".

You check their profile picture and it's always 100% of the time, an MJ pic.

Calm down, kid, and try to be civil for a change, if you can. Sheesh.
.
Regardless of it being a "comedy podcast" (I will not listen to it), people will still consider its points (pros and cons) to be true.
Besides, calling someone evil (unjustifiably) is not comedy in my book.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Just pointing how after hearing certain stories people are quick to judge. It's been a while since I heard that podcast. But of the 3 people talking 2 of them were put off by what they heard.

Other examples? When Mayte was promoting her book. The presenters of the UK show "This Morning" tried to make a huge deal about Prince having guardianship of her. Despite the fact she was telling them everything was above board. All they wanted to talk about is how they thought that was bizarre/odd/strange/concerning. Ironic given what later transpired with Philip Schofield.

The idea that a Netflix documentary that explores the darker side of Prince, would have no repercussions on his legacy IMO is wrong. It would.

The impact may be small, but if it hurts sales then it hurts the prospect of future releases. Which for fans who want a torrent of new releases, is a bad thing.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care about this documentary.
I just want the music out. As much as possible.
