7 (E Flat version)

Thread to continue discussion from original sticky of the release on 7 July for this song I.e. the music (see separate thread for All A Share...)

.

https://prince.org/msg/7/470027

.

The original Sticky is still available to discuss views on 'Estate release business' etc.

This is very unnecessary, imho.

There were so many other fixes to attend to on this site over the years.

This is just silly, Langebleu.

You are the last moderator, i guess, but this is something luv4u would do...

I think it makes sense to have individual threads for each song.

7 (E Flat) has grown on since it got a proper release.

It still doesn't fantastic but is now listenable.

I guess it was released as the theme this year was 7.

I could think of 100 or more things I would have rather seen get a release.

I think the song is pretty good. I noticed that the melody to the vocals are slightly different from the album version. I prefer the album version, but this E Flat one is at least interesting.

That’s a good point. They probably chose it to along with their marketing focused on the #7.

The sound is kinda weird to me. I don't know if it's the way it was transfered from tape or just bad EQing. Too much bass, not enough treble.

But yeah, it's a great remix.

It sounds as a tape that has been digitized on the fly without any work done on it.

In any case, it sounds as something done by a non professional so we get that blurry mix & bad EQing.

Yes indeed, just a straight one on one copy to digital.

Was any info given like when was it recorded? It’s not from the maxi single so is it something he toyed with afterwards? It has a very 1993 hip hop sound. I think I hear a familiar sample late in the song too.

I pitched and remixed it to a Camille version, and it sounds even waaaay better.

The funky coda sounds nothing like anything else on the symbol album.

Exactly - however much you might dislike the song, the version, the quality: that last minute is funky Prince!
