We need a FAQ at the top of the page instructing new users that the proper way to show respect at the org is to flambΓ©e every other users posts.

What's so weird about someone showing appreciation for the SOTT album ?

"appreciation for the SOTT album" had nothing to do with it...maybe you should re-read the thread from the top....reading is fundamental

Nothing is weird about! It's one the greatest albums ever released. I'm referring to whatever weird joke was or insight was implied earlier with the "nice one" blurb. SOTT is sublime!

It's a "nice one" because he voiced disapproval for the religiousity of "amen" and then Orion immediately came in with the heavy all-caps emphasis "AMEN," like "I dgaf you dgaf about religiosity."

Older gen are just more used to actual punchlines in their back-and-forth. The exchange in this thread is more "reddit"-y type humor based less on direct jokes and more on "cute" asides.

I'd even eliminate "One Of." It's the best album ever.

Nah...thats not even close to the truth at all...My use of capital letters had absolutely nothing to do with that comment about "religiousity"...i used capitals to reflect how strongly i agreed with SOTT being one of the greatest albums ever...yall are sometimes overthinking this stuff forreal

Ooh yes, they are great albums but for depth and diversity of styles I still think Sign o the Times was one I would recommend to non Prince fans if I was trying to get them interested in following him.
It's got a certain depth of Rock, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Pop, Balladry and awesomeness that excels the others.
That said, I love all of the albums you mentioned and couldn't live without them ❀️

Yep better than Purple Rain. I am shocked it wasn't well received when it came out.

ehhh, was this how you got into Prince out the gate, though?

I always feel SOTT is like the worst intro to Prince that always gets recommended to new fans by virtue of being his best album.

It's the best because it's like the best approximation of his abilities in a big artistic statement, but those elements aren't really appreciated if you don't already have a baseline familiarity with the "Prince style", especially in the production department. Plus all the Camille, which can be polarizing (always loved it myself, just acknowledging).

Aye, you're probably right. My first introduction to Prince was hearing When Doves Cry, 1999, Little Red Corvette and Let's Go Crazy in 1984. I didn't commit to an album until Around the World in a Day a year later. I quickly picked up the previous albums and I've been on the purple train ever since!

Funny, because your comments reminded me that Sign O The Times was so immense that I needed a couple of listens before I realised it for the masterpiece it is. I thought it sounded a bit minimalist on my first listen, as I recall. So your point is a good one πŸ‘ 😎✌️❀️
