That's a reasonable point. But if we use that as our measuring stick, then we'd be opposed to anything being released from the Vault.

We shouldn't trust Prince's judgment
This dude sat on the deliverance EP,"all a share together now" and released stuff like "planet earth" album
I don't think he was aware of how good some of his unreleased works were

His judgement seemed to get worse in the last two decades
But who knows
Ive no clue about outtakes from that period at all

Same reason that the Apollonia 6 short movie keeps resurfacing -- Prince doesn't always have the best judgment about all his work.

i don't think there is anything coherent to release other then testshots and the concert footage and I don't think they will ever release these unfinished things. Maybe the original director could edit it close to 'finished' with all the footage he has but I don't thnk that will ever happen.

...why seek out any single Prince outtake period if this is the criteria of artistic worth?

I would like all footage related to this project to be released, every frame. Don't care if it's completely unfinished and incoherent... at the very least isn't there a full concert shot on film from 82? Maybe?

We shouldn't trust Prince's judgment This dude sat on the deliverance EP,"all a share together now" and released stuff like "planet earth" album I don't think he was aware of how good some of his unreleased works were

He was likely patently aware, he just had that "gemini" contrarian opposite day type personality however you want to qualify it, so any random reason could set him off to torching a worthwhile project without a second's hesitation--OG "Wally" anyone? Black Album? Or the amount of incredible "hit"-level material he "gave away"--and not the usual purple kool-aid "I tell you 'Hide the Bone' would have hit #1 in all 7 continents if he put it out as a single"--no, I'm talking genuine hooky hit-styled stuff that fit for the era.

He'd probably play his demos to people and they'd be "man, that's a hit! you gotta put that out!" and immediately he'd probably slink back in his chair and shrug, "meh, nah, I'm giving that one to Kahoru Kohiruimaki instead."

Reason #746,475,475 Exhibit ZZFGVC why we need an online subscriber reboot/replacement of the NPG Music Club. Then all these silly debates over "worth" of release quality become irrelevant and people like you and I can happily enjoy archival CCTV Paisley security camera footage of him eating lemon cake on February 7, 1987 and the so-called arbiters of quality control can simply skip the upload of the day and go stream "Small Club" again or something.

It's insane to me when people want "only finished stuff" to be released, or think that that's a good mindset for archival releases

#1 - Prince is no longer here and by definition everything is unfinished
#2 - we need real archival releases, like actual releases. they're archival releases, everyone understands that unfinished stuff is part of the process, i don't see how it's harmful in any way, shape, or form to put out drastically unfinished stuff as part of lower key releases aimed at the hardcore fans who want to understand his process and hear anything.

just maddening to me that people think SOTT SDE is the be-all-end-all of archival releases. LOL.

I would also like to see it , but I don't think the Estate has any interest in working woth the director who shot it and share the income.
Prince sent all the shot footage for The Second Coming (not the audio) back to the director some years before he passed away.

have yet to read the comments: but Prince did BUY the concert footage from the film maker but NOT the other footage... but there is not much to it. Some of it has been shown and what has been seen may be about it.

So other than an early pro-shot concert there is really no such movie... just the show and some shots of Prince and the ladies waking and poseing.

here is one story about it

There is about 30 minutes of footage in circulation of the vingettes that were shot at Prince's house and to be shown between some of the concert footage. Multiple takes of the following scenes:

1. Prince holding hands with Susan Moonsie and Kim Upsher. They walk into a room with a bright white light behind them. As Prince walks away, white smoke/fog from the bright white room follows him and Susan waves goodbye to him and Kim raises her dress and waves it at him and they both look as if they're in a trance. Susan is wearing pink lingerie and Kim is wearing a loose fitting white dress.

2. Prince and Susan pop up into the camera and Prince takes his skinny bow tie from around his neck and ties it around Susans neck while Kim looks on seductively at the both of them. Prince takes the bubble gum out of his mouth and shoves it into Susan's mouth.

3. The camera starts down at Prince's white boots and slowly pans up (showing a blue bandanna tied around one leg and and a red one tied around the other leg.) When it gets to Prince's hip, he pulls back his black trenchcoat and shows off his waist chain, and with the leg warmers and bikini briefs on, the angle makes it looks as if he's not wearing underwear and showing off the side of his ass cheek. As the camera pans up to Prince's face, he's twirling his bubblegum around his index finger from his mouth while staring into the camera seductively.

4. Prince blows bubbles with his bubblegum and tries to see how big he can get it before it bursts. Everytime it bursts prematurely he rolls his eyes and starts over.

5. Prince standing at a dresser and the camera starts at his waist. He puts something that looks like black panties into his pocket. The camera pans down, showing the buttons on Prince's pants and as it reaches his white boots on the purple carpet, he turns to walk out the door. The camera pans up as he's walking but his face is never shown. As he walks out the door, the camera stops and slowly zooms in on the poster of Prince and the band that was used for the Let's Work 12 inch.

There is no audio, a timecode is running at the bottom of the screen, and there is a water mark at the top and middle of the screen. One version I saw had the water marks blurred out so it made it hard to watch the footage. The other version I saw didn't have the blur, but the water mark is still present.

UTCM not being released in color

Keeping his music off of YouTube for years

I never said "he could do no wrong"...but his immense creative output was no mistake in judgement...he released what HE and his team felt should be released, not what every single random fan wanted or wants him to release...his judgement in that regard, was pretty much flawless, as people are STILL begging for more of his music and videos 7 years after his death...you can stand on what you said, all you like...but that doesnt make it right
