The most cringe-worthy is the NPG song "2gether" from 1-800-New-Funk. The lazy delivery, the small self-important laugh at the end of every line. Ugh.

i like it, too. There is a hidden gem in the maxi single, also! "Whatever skin we're in

yeah, "2Gether" in GOATed in the realm of Tony M. Super smooth track, smooth Tony M. delivery. Better than "get stoopid! Get stoopid!" anyway... What sign you are? Stop sign?

I think Goldnigga as an album was a good fit. The flow fitted well and I have fond memories of Dancing to jughead during the D&P tour with the Belgian Posse being Stijn, Dirk and friends (so that affects my view to the song somewhat).

. True. I consider Love2the9s one of his best Prince songs from the 90s on. And that rapping is completely unnecessary. . But I dont hate Tony´s rap. He was cool on ´Gett Off´, ´Sexy MF´. In studio he was ok.

Only track I really liked with Tony was Call the Law, but that NPG album was all pretty good. Just wish he wasn’t on a lot of the “Prince” songs, like Willing & Able, where he adds nothing.

Songs: Call the Law, My Name Is Prince, Willing & Able
Love him or hate him, he brought the hype to a lot of P's music in the 90s. I dont get the Tony M hate. Those who get it, get it & those who don't, don't.

Prince + rap = good tries with minimum success, outside of a few instances.
In Tony's case, The Flow, Goldnigga (he was great on), and for me that would be it. Everything else is just kind of Prince forcing his was into an era he didn't belong.

prince obv didnt have a great sense of what was good or bad in hip hop terms (id still say his best 'rap' was irresistible bitch, and the best raps he ever got from anyone else came from cat and sheila e, prob as they were obviously rapped, but werent trying to sound like more regular hip hop content, lyric-wise). i think this continued even as he got older and presumably listened to more rappers. but i wonder if he thought the rapping he did or got from other rappers for his music was genuinely good, or if he ever thought, 'that wasnt the best decision i made'. or maybe he still believed in tony's greatness, decades after the fact.

i forgot about the max! def one of his underrated moments. its prob closest to gett off too, in terms of how prince and tony switch the vocals between them.

The part on the Peach & Black podcast where he tells the story about Prince losing his shit because Tony wanted to try hang-gliding. I never hated Tony's contributions. As far as pop-rap in the early 90s goes; he's not as bad as people make out. I'd rather listen to Tony M than Vanilla Ice.

Word...id rather listen to Tony M rap, than MANY popular mc's..including some big names like: Vanilla Ice Lil Wayne Eminem Tupac Dr. Dre Outkast (andre3000) Kendrick Lamar Drake Migos or Pretty much any rapper from the South [Edited 7/14/23 8:00am]

Aside from anything he is not on, 2Gether I thought he did a great job on. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

I think having Tony M. on a few tracks, such as Gett Off, Sexy MF and MNIP was fine.

Easy, Tiger. It's easy to make claims like these when we never got a proper Tony M. solo record. Dr. Dre wasn't so bad in 20 second snippet hypeman form during Jimmy Z's "Funky Flute" either. [Edited 7/14/23 18:24pm]
